If your Spirit Airlines flight is delayed, you could experience financial losses if you missed a connecting flight and had to pay for an extra night at a hotel or miss the reservations you made at your flight's destination. If you have experienced a delayed Spirit Airlines flight, there are circumstances in which you can seek compensation, depending on the circumstances.

For Spirit Airlines Flights That Originate in the EU

American laws do not require airlines to give passengers refunds or any other form of compensation for delayed flights. It's different in the European Union. If your Spirit Airlines flight originated in an EU country then EU law requires Spirit Airlines to offer compensation even though it is not an EU carrier.

If your destination was another EU country and you experienced a flight delay of three hours or more then you have from $300 to $400 coming to you, depending on the distance of the flight. If your destination was a country located outside of the EU then you are owed a flat $360.

Spirit Airlines Delay Policy

Spirit Airlines' delayed flight policy is as follows:

  • If you missed a connection because of a delay that was the airline's fault then it may offer you overnight lodging if you are not local to the area. The airline will try to book you on another flight if possible, but it guarantees nothing.
  • Spirit does not offer any other form of compensation for delayed flights.

If your flight did not start in an EU country, you are unlikely to be able to get any form of compensation from Spirit Airlines unless they decide to offer it to you. They note that any compensation they choose to offer is a courtesy and not an obligation.

How to Make the Refund Request

As Spirit Airlines does not give out compensation for delayed flights by policy, there is no refund form to submit. Instead, you need to contact Spirit Airlines' customer support services and make the request to them. They have a help phone line, an online help desk, and email support.
