What To Do If Your Paypal Account Gets Hacked
If you suspect that your Paypal account has been hacked or you are the victim of fraud, it's imperative that you report it immediately and update your password and security questions immediately.
Report the Fraud to Paypal
Report any unknown transactions you find on your PayPal account through the Resolution Center, as follows:
- Go to Paypal's website and scroll to the bottom of the page, click or tap on "Resolution Center."
- When the page opens click or tap on the "Report a Problem" button.
- Next, you will be shown a list of your recent transactions, click on the transaction that you suspect is fraudulent and select the continue button.
- You will then be shown a choice of options, choose the "I want to report unauthorized activity" option.
- Complete the details of the dispute in the form provided.
- Once complete, click continue. This will automatically log the issue with Paypal, which will investigate the issue.
Resetting Your Password and Security Questions
Protect your account right away by changing your password and updating your security questions if you believe your account has been compromised. Follow the directions below to update the security on your account:
- Click on the security menu to open up a new screen of options.
- Choose the update password option.
- Once there, enter your current password, followed by your new password, which you will need to enter twice. Make sure to choose a secure password that no one can guess.
- You can then click on the update password button to finalize the change of the password. To reset your security questions follow the same process as above but choose the "Update Security Option" instead.
