I sold my car a few weeks ago and keep forgetting to turn in my old license plate. Do I have to go to an agency and sit there for an hour or more just to hand it in to someone?.

No, you don't necessarily have to go in person to turn in your old license plate. In Florida, you can mail your license plate to the nearest division of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV). It is a good idea to retain some proof of the plate surrender, like a tracking number or receipt from the post office. Do remember to cancel your registration and insurance as well. By turning in your plate, you avoid any future misuse and potential resultant liabilities. You might be eligible for a partial refund on your registration fee too.
