The Arkansas Department of Workforce Services provides unemployment insurance for Arkansas residents. Residents who qualify for the state's unemployment benefits will receive financial assistance for up to 16 weeks in a 1 year period. After filing your application, you go through your first waiting period, which ends when you receive your Notice of Monetary Determination, which lists the figures the state will use in determining your eligibility. You have a chance here to correct any mistakes that might have been made. After that, you go through a second waiting period while your case status is determined. While you are waiting for your case to be decided, you may want to learn how to check on the status of your application. Find out how to do this below.

Unemployment Benefit Eligibility Requirements in Arkansas

  • You must be fully or partially unemployed through no fault of your own, such as because of cost cutting layoffs or a national disaster.
  • You cannot be directly involved in or have an interest in the outcome of a labor dispute.
  • You must be mentally and physically able to work.
  • You must make yourself available for work.
  • You must be making a reasonable effort to find a new job.
  • If you are partially employed, your weekly income has to be less than 140% of your weekly benefit amount.

The first week of eligible unemployment will not be paid, as it is used for a mandatory waiting period.
