What is American Airlines' policy on traveling with pets other than dogs?

Asked a year ago
American Airlines allows only cats and dogs in the cabin or cargo hold, excluding other pets such as birds, reptiles, and rodents. Passengers may bring small dogs and cats in an approved carrier which meets specific size and weight requirements. Service animals, including emotional support animals, are allowed to travel with passengers free of charge, provided necessary documentation is submitted prior to the flight. However, American Airlines does not accept animals in the cabin on international flights to/from Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, and Argentina, except for service animals. Additionally, the airline does not transport snub-nosed or brachycephalic dog or cat breeds in the cargo hold due to breed-specific respiratory concerns. Pet travel fees vary based on destination, airfare type, and size of the carrier.
