What are the hours and when should I call?
PSE&G operates the call center for this 800-436-7734 phone number 24 hours, 7 days. The short answer is that you should call on a Friday. This observation and the following section are based on analysis of a sample set of 359 calls made in the last 90 days using our free, web-based phone (see above).
When you use our free AI-powered phone to call and talk, wait on hold, or navigate for you, it will automatically wait until the PSE&G call center opens before trying to call. It will ask your permission before it places the call, so you can also further delay that scheduled call until you are ready. But that means you can "set it and forget it" ahead of time.
An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this PSE&G phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like PSE&G staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.
The least busy time to call
The least busy day to call PSE&G is Sunday. The most busy day to call is Wednesday, which averages 169% more phone calls by comparison.Again, this is based on a sample of 359 calls made with our AI-powered, web-based phone in the last 90 days.

The shortest wait on hold

My power went out late at night, and I had to report the outage to PSE&G. As you can imagine, I didn't want to spend a lot of time on the line since I had to preserve my phone battery, but at the same time, I had to call and tell someone. It was weird because it wasn't a very powerful storm, but it got knocked out for some reason anyhow. I was a bit worried that a lot of people would be calling since when it storms multiple people can end up on the line.
Thankfully, they have a customer service line that makes it easy to get help if you need it. I had to make it through some standard messaging, but was able to talk to someone in just under two minutes which wasn't bad at all. When I called, an automated agent picked up and said, "Thank you for calling PSE&G New Jersey. For English press 1. For Spanish press 2." I chose English, and then the recording said, " We are currently experiencing outages throughout our territory and are dedicating agents to emergency calls. If you are calling to report a gas leak, no power, downed line, or other emergency please stay on the line."
I stayed on the line and the recording told me that if I had another problem I should call on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons because those are the lowest wait times. Obviously, my call couldn't wait, and after that message, the recorded voice stated, "What can I help you with?" I said "Power outage" and it asked me to enter my 10-digit account number after which I was taken through a series of prompts and then transferred to a live agent who gave me an update on the situation.

Information about why customers call PSE&G is extracted from issues that customers have reported to GetHuman.
PSE&G, like many companies, provides customer service on the X platform (formerly Twitter). While it rarely entails live dialogue with a customer service rep, this channel can yield rapid response times and can be a useful option if you have an X/Twitter account.
As a last, sometimes only, resort- PSE&G customer service can be accessed through their website. This can entail digging through help articles before finding a form and "being allowed" to submit a problem to their team, and rarely leads to a real-time conversation, which is why GetHuman does not recommend this unless it's the only way.
