T.J. Maxx, also known as TJX, offers merchandise through both brick-and-mortar and online storefronts. The company has a relatively extensive return policy. It has slightly different rules for handling returns depending on the details of the original transaction.

Cost of T.J. Maxx Returns by Mail

T.J. Maxx makes online returns easy by including a shipping label in its packages, but the return shipping is not free. The cost of shipping, $9.99, will be deducted from your refund value. T.J. Maxx will only pay for return shipping if the merchandise you were sent was defective.

T.J. Maxx Exchanges

After the warehouse has received your mailed return, it takes 10 to 14 days to credit your account. Store credit can also only be applied once the warehouse has finished processing the return. Therefore, merchandise purchased online cannot be exchanged for other items online because TJX's online inventory changes at a faster pace.

TJX exchanges can only be performed in-store. One equivalent option to consider is making a second online purchase while the return is still processing, assuming you will receive a cash refund. Any returns made 40 days after the original order date will only receive store credit. T.J. Maxx returns mailed in without a receipt will also prompt a refund via store credit.

In-Store Refunds

Unlike mailed returns, in-store refunds take place immediately. By taking your online purchase to a nearby store, you can avoid paying the $9.99 shipment fee and also benefit from faster processing. It usually only takes banks a few days to post the credit back to your original form of payment.

Order Cancellation

After an online order has been received, T.J. Maxx is unable to cancel it. If you no longer want the items, you will have to wait to receive the merchandise and follow the ordinary T.J. Maxx return process. In this case, the $9.99 shipping return fee will still apply.
