Nationwide offers a wide range of insurance policies, covering everything from pets to cars. Filing a claim can usually be completed online using the company's easy-to-use website.

Filing a Nationwide Auto Claim

To get started, go to Nationwide's website and look for "File a Nationwide Claim."

Below "File a Nationwide Claim," you'll find a dropdown menu with several insurance options. Select "Auto," then click "Learn More."

Next, scroll down to "File an auto claim" on the left side of your screen. Click it and follow the on-screen instructions.

For Nationwide members, you'll be asked to enter your login info after selecting "I am a Nationwide member." For non-members, you'll need the policy number and last name of the Nationwide member involved with your claim.

Filing Other Nationwide Claims

Filing other claims with Nationwide follows a similar process to auto claims. To get started, head over to the company's website and look for the same dropdown menu. Here, you need to select the type of claim you're filing. Your options include:

  • Auto
  • Homeowners
  • Renters
  • Pet
  • Life/Annuity
  • Boat/watercraft
  • Business

After choosing your claim type, click "Learn More." Next, you'll be brought to your insurance plan's info page. Here, look towards the left side of your screen. You'll see some variation of "File a Claim" or "Start," go ahead and click that.

Important: Boat/watercraft claims currently cannot be filed online. Instead, you will need to call Nationwide directly.

Next Steps

The process of filing your online Nationwide claim will vary depending on your plan. But overall, once you follow the above steps, you'll find on-screen instructions and questions. Generally, you'll need your Nationwide account info, including your Nationwide website login credentials and information regarding the nature of your claim.

Other information you will probably need includes:

  1. Your Nationwide Policy Number
  2. Your date of birth
  3. Your address

For Third Party Filers

Sometimes, an attorney or other third party will file a claim on a policyholder's behalf. In these cases, the third-party should select "I am filing a claim on behalf of someone else" when the option appears. However, this option isn't always available, meaning some claims have to be filed by the policyholder.

How Long Does it Take Nationwide to Process My Claim?

Nationwide usually takes 30 days to process insurance claims, although that timeline will depend on the type of claim, additional document requests and other situational factors.
