How Do I Send a Check to Someone Online Using Fidelity Investments?

Fidelity Investments is an American financial services company. They offer many services, including money transfers.

One of the ways you can transfer funds from your Fidelity Investments account is by check. Online checks are a quick and easy way to transfer money from your account to an individual's or financial institution's account.

There are two ways through which you can send a check to someone using Fidelity Investments: via mail or using the mobile app.

Mail

The first thing you should know is that Fidelity Investments has certain policies that pertain to the sending of checks. There are certain checks that Fidelity Investments will accept and others that they will reject.

The company will accept the following types of checks: personal checks, cashier's or bank checks, certified checks, Federal Reserve checks, U.S. Treasury checks and business checks.

They will also accept checks payable to one or more Fidelity account owners, also called second-party checks. However, there are endorsement requirements that need to be met if the name of the check payee is incongruent with the owner name(s) of the Fidelity account into which the check is being deposited.

The types of checks that Fidelity Investments will reject include: altered checks, checks in a foreign currency or drawn on a foreign bank, post-dated checks, unsigned checks, money orders, third-party checks and traveler's checks. They will also reject stale-dated checks, which are checks dated more than 180 days before their reception.

The process of depositing a check by mail to Fidelity Investments is as follows:

  1. Fill out the relevant deposit or contribution form. It may be a deposit slip, an annuity additional purchase form or a 401k contribution remittance form. Once you finish filling out the form, you should print it out because you will need to include the form alongside the check when mailing it.
  2. Enter your account number and contribution year, when necessary, in the memo field of your check.
  3. Check the Fidelity Investments website for who you should make the check out to, which will depend on who the check is intended for.
  4. Also check the Fidelity website for the mailing addresses to put on the check. This will also depend on who the check is intended for.

Once the funds are deposited into your Fidelity Investments account, you can then send the money online to whoever you want.

Mobile Deposit

The other way through which you can send a check to someone online using Fidelity Investments is by mobile deposit. You can easily do so directly from your mobile phone or tablet.

The process of making a mobile deposit is as follows:

  1. Download the Fidelity Investments app.
  2. Launch the app and log in to your account.
  3. Select "Transact" at the bottom of your home screen.
  4. Next tap "Deposit Checks."
  5. Select the account into which you want to deposit the funds.
  6. Enter the check amount. Ensure that it is below your daily deposit limit.
  7. Place the check against a contrasting background in a well-lit area.
  8. Ensure that all four corners of the check are within the screen. The video camera will automatically assist you in taking the picture.
  9. You will need to take photos of both the front and back of the check.
  10. Ensure that the check's information is accurate and then tap "Submit Deposit."
  11. Ensure that you get confirmation of the deposit.
