How Do I Return an Item to DSW?

DSW is a leading retailer of designer footwear and accessories, but what if you need to return an item? Returning items can be frustrating and time-consuming. Here are some tips and tricks that will make the process easier for you (and DSW). Let's get started.

Doesn't Fit

If the item doesn't fit, you can return it to DSW. This is often for a different size or because of an error on your part (wrong color, for example.).

When returning shoes that don't fit, the first thing to do is make sure they haven't been worn outside. If so, then there are no returns.

If they haven't been worn, DSW allows you to bring the shoes back within 30 days of purchase for a full refund or store credit (if returned at a retail location). You can also return them by mail using the free label that comes with your order confirmation email. Print this out and affix it to the outside of your return package.

Be sure to include all original packaging, including boxes and bags (if they came with one). DSW will not process returns without this. Be sure you don't send in anything other than shoes because DSW won't accept returns for any non-shoe items that are included in the original order.

DSW will process your return within two weeks of receiving it and refund you or send a store credit voucher for the entire purchase price (minus any shipping charges). The company recommends allowing up to six weeks after sending your package to receive your funds back. If more than 30 days have passed, contact customer service at DSW.com to check your refund status.

Can't Be Returned

If an item can't be returned, it is not eligible for a refund (or even store credit), except under very limited circumstances (such as if the product is defective). These include:

  • Merchandise that has been worn outside or shows signs of being used as your normal footwear.
  • Merchandise has been altered or is missing tags, including security/shoe care tags and the original shoe box.
  • Items not in their original condition (e.g., items with noticeable wear).

  • Use a trackable shipping service to ensure that you can track your return shipment as it leaves your hands and arrives at DSW's warehouse.

You should expect to receive an email from DSW verifying receipt within two weeks of sending your package. After that, you can expect to receive your refund (less shipping charges) within two weeks of DSW processing the return.

If returning by mail, please allow up to six weeks after mailing to deliver your refund or store credit. If it has been more than 30 days since you returned an item, and if you have not received your refund or store credit, contact the DSW customer service team.
