Switching your cellphone plan to Consumer Cellular is a simple process. You can make the switch by contacting customer service here.

Read below to learn about how to switch your cellphone plan.

Keeping Your Current Phone

First, you want to make sure your current phone is compatible with Consumer Cellular SIM cards. If you currently have AT&T or T-Mobile, your phone is likely compatible with Consumer Cellular; however, many Verizon phones are not. Make sure your phone (regardless of current carrier) is a GSM phone instead of one that uses CDMA technology.

Second, you want to make sure your phone is not still locked by your current carrier. If it isn't unlocked, you will have to contact your provider to request the phone be unlocked so it will accept a Consumer Cellular SIM card.

Third, you decide which Talk and Connect plan you want for your new phone and purchase that plan and your new SIM card. You can purchase your new SIM by calling customer service, going online to order one or picking one up at a Consumer Cellular retailer.

Last, once you receive your new SIM card insert it into your phone. The switch is complete. As an added bonus, Consumer Cellular will give you a $10 rebate once you activate your new plan, making your SIM card free.

Purchasing a New Phone

Consumer Cellular carries all the latest smartphones that you can purchase along with your new pay as you go plan including the newest iPhone and Android devices. With EasyPay, you can purchase your Consumer Cellular smartphone and pay for it in installments with no interest fees.

Activating your Phone

To activate your phone, confirm you have a Consumer Cellular Connect plan, insert your SIM card into your phone and then go online to follow the activation process. On the back of the SIM card packaging, you will find a QR code (this is on the back of the box the phone was in if you purchase a phone from Consumer Cellular). Enter this code into the online activation portal and click "activate."

Keeping Your Current Number

What if you want to keep your current number? To avoid changing your cellphone number, contact customer service and provide them with information about your current plan (such as carrier and phone number). Keep your current phone account active until you have confirmed that your new Consumer Cellular plan is working properly.

Switching from a contract plan or another pay as you plan to Consumer Cellular is simple. For more information, contact customer service here and make the switch today.
