Like a number of financial institutions, Bank of America (BofA) allows customers to use bill pay to make monthly payments quickly and easily while reducing their carbon footprint by eliminating paper bills, but what happens when a bill payee is no longer a payment recipient? Below are steps for removing a bill pay recipient.

Deleting an Existing Bill Pay Recipient From Your Bank of America Account

To remove an existing payee from your BofA bill pay service:

  1. Log into your online bank account.
  2. Select "Bill Pay" at the top of the screen.
  3. Navigate to "Bill Pay Center" to review the companies you currently have enrolled.
  4. Select "Delete a Pay To Account."
  5. Confirm you wish to delete the payee, and click "Continue."

Important Information to Know

While you can remove a current payee at any time, there are some things you need to know when removing someone from your monthly bill pay.

  • Once a payment is processing, you cannot cancel the payment even if you delete the payee.
  • Future payments or recurring payments can be canceled within 3 banking business days of the transaction processing date. For example, if the payment is scheduled for a Friday, cancellation must be made by 5 p.m. EST on the Tuesday before the payment date.
  • You must monitor your account with the payee to make sure the balance is zero or paid in full and the account is closed, or you have set up an alternate payment plan if you are switching payment methods.
  • If you need to add the deleted payee back to your Bank of America bill pay, you can do so at any time.

Deleting a bill pay recipient from your account is a quick and easy process online; however, you want to make sure you delete the payee well before the next scheduled payment to avoid any additional funds coming out of your account.
