Enable 2-Step Verification to Receive a Security Code

As mentioned, Amazon will send a temporary security code to your phone number or email address when you enable the 2-step verification feature on your account. To enable this feature, simply sign in to your account. Just enter your login credentials and click Continue to enter your password.

Go to Login and Security

Just click your name and tap Account to get to this page.

Enter the Verification Code

To get the verification code, check the email address or mobile number registered to your Amazon account. Enter the code and click Submit.

Click Turn On Beside 2-Step Verification

Enter Your Mobile Number

Choose the correct country code, enter your mobile number, and click Continue. Then, follow the on-screen instructions.

Use an Authenticator App

You can also use an authenticator app to enable 2-step verification. Just scan the code, verify the OTP and click Continue.

Once your 2-step verification is enabled, you will need to enter both your password and a temporary security code every time you sign in to your Amazon account. You can disable your 2-step verification at any time as well. To do this, just go back to Login & Security and click Disable beside 2-step Verification.

If you have enabled 2-step verification and are unable to complete the process when signing in, Amazon will ask you to verify your identity to regain access to your account. You'll need to provide a copy or scan of a valid government-issued ID or document.

They will not be able to disable 2-step verification unless you submit the required documentation. Upload your ID and allow 1–2 days for the verification process. You will receive an email once your account has been verified and 2-step verification has been disabled.

After that, you can sign back in to your account without needing a security code.

Note: Amazon may still ask you to enter a verification code if you wish to make changes to your account or when Amazon detects suspicious activities. The verification code is a 6-digit code sent to both the email address and mobile number registered to your Amazon account.

Conclusion

Amazon's security access code is a temporary code sent when signing in. If you have enabled 2-step verification and did not receive a security code to your email, and no phone number is registered to your Amazon account, check your Spam or Junk folder. You can also click Resend Code on the sign-in screen. If you still do not receive a code, the issue may be with your email provider or with Amazon's temporary system issue. Wait a few minutes and try again. If the issue persists, contact Amazon Customer Support for assistance.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Amazon Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
