Amazon has many great features and benefits for its users, but sometimes, things can go wrong with an account β€” you might be locked out of your account. If you want access to your Amazon account, you can go through a process called retrieving your password. Here are the steps to unlock an Amazon account.

1. Go to Amazon's Website and Sign In

If you have an Amazon account, but it is locked or disabled, the first thing you should do is visit your Amazon account. Enter the email address and password you used when you registered your account. If the password you entered is incorrect, try changing your password to something else. Then, try again to log in.

2. Enter an Email Address

When prompted, enter an email address that can receive a text message. This is key if you ever lose access to your Amazon account and need to reset it with a security code sent to your phone. By giving Amazon a mobile number, it can verify that the account holder is the account owner.

3. Verify Your Identity

If you haven't verified your identity by answering a security question, Amazon will prompt you to do so. This process requires you to either log into your Amazon account using your email address or phone number β€” the same one that is associated with the account β€” or by uploading a picture of an ID document (such as a driver's license). Once that step is complete, you'll be asked to verify the email address or phone number associated with your account. Once you verify the information, enter a new password and confirm it.

4. Enter the Security Code

Scroll down and enter the security code you received in the Security Code field. Then, click on the button that says Send Code. You will receive an email shortly with instructions on unlocking your Amazon account. Then click Continue.

5. Additional Information

You will be asked to provide additional personal information, including your name (as it appears on your Amazon account), security answers and more. The data must match what is already on file for your account to verify that you are the owner of the account. After completing these steps, your account should be fully unlocked and accessible.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Amazon Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Amazon in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our How Do I Unlock My Amazon Account? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
