Ally Bank's origins date as far as 1919, when it was founded to provide loans to automobile customers. Originally named the General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC) by its founder General Motors, it has remained relevant to today's consumer. Ally began with offering automobile loans and now it includes checking and savings, investing and retirement accounts, and mortgages. But what if you needed to replace a lost, damaged, or stolen debit card? Don't worry, this guide will show you how. Read on to learn more.

Lost Debit Cards

If you need to put yourself at ease while looking for your card, you have the option of putting a temporary lock on your Ally Bank debit card. That way, you can remove the lock after you find it.

  1. Simply open the Ally Mobile app, go to settings and then Card Controls to lock your card.
  2. Ally states that you can only remove a temporary lock if your card hasn't been deactivated already. This can only occur if you call customer service.

Stolen or Damaged

If you suspect your debit card has been stolen, it's recommended to call Ally Banking Customer Service immediately so that they can cancel the card. This way it lessens the chance of you seeing unauthorized charges on your account, which is stressful enough.

  1. After you call, you can expect Ally to cancel your current debit and issue an new one.
  2. You can expect your Ally Bank debit card delivered within 5 to 7 business days.
  3. You are also automatically enrolled in Fraud alerts as soon as you signed up for an Ally account. In the event of potentially suspicious transactions when you can't reach customer service right away, Ally's 24 hour will send you an alert via text or email confirming if the transaction is fraudulent and unauthorized. You can then confirm the charge as legit with a reply or suspicious by calling Ally.

After You Receive Your Replacement

Be sure to call the number on the card or use the Ally Mobile app to activate your card. Then be sure to update any external services or apps that may contain your old debit card information. The sooner you complete this, the sooner you can move on to the next thing on your to-do list. Some examples might be your phone plan, utility and internet bills, and third-party payment processing services like PayPal, Google Pay, Apply Pay and Samsung Pay.
