My daughter and I missed our flight Tuesday Oct *, **** from Denver to St George (UA****T) due to a delay on United's part leaving Houston (UA***T) almost an hour late (late leaving the gate and a long time sitting on the run way to take off), having to wait to get to a gate once in Denver (once again sitting just off the runway), and then having our connecting flight (UA****T) leave earlier than they were supposed to. Four of us (my daughter and I and a man and his wife) on the Houston flight missed the connecting flight. One of the other people found out that those on the flight to St George "voted" to leave the late arriving passengers - so they left! Even when they had been informed we were coming! (We were all in rows on the Houston plane around *** and could not disembark with slow passengers in front of us. We were at gate ** and RAN to gate **.) *We all arrived at the gate BEFORE the plane was to leave, and only minutes after the loading time was to have ended. The crew on the Houston flight told us not to worry, that the other flight knew we were coming, and they would wait. They assured us it would not matter that the "loading" time had ended, and that the leaving time was what mattered. Well the plane did not wait. And no one was at the desk when we arrived at the gate - so no one could tell the plane we were here! *We went to the customer service desk to see what flights they could get us home on. The next one was ** hours later to go to our destination! We were able instead to get on a flight to Salt Lake City within the hour, and rent a car in SLC, and drive home. So we chose that option. We drove *** miles, half of which was in pouring rain, arriving to our home at * am the next morning (instead of *:** pm in the airport the night before.)* I know the flight to SLC was less expensive than the flight to ST George. The desk clerk told us we should be eligible for a refund of the difference of the flight Denver to SLC and Denver to SGU. I also had to pay $*** for a car and $** for gas. I feel this should also be refunded. * I hope for a refund of the difference of the flight to SLC instead of SGU for both tickets, and a reimbursement of the rental car and gas. My daughter had to be to work the next morning, and we had to get back. *United should not have left us and the other * passengers when they knew we were delayed due to United's errors, and especially after the crew had told us they would wait. My daughter got to the gate before I did - and there was no "last call" ever sent over the PA system. They just closed the door and left. I seldom fly, and I doubt I will ever fly with United again, so I will not be able to use air miles or points. I would like to be reimbursed with cash. I can send a copy of my receipt for the car and gas. I hope United will make good for this mess that was completely avoidable, and had nothing to do with us - with the exception of not getting from one end of Denver airport to the other quicker than ** minutes.
