The package I was expecting never arrived. The tracking number is *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *. Tracking information said that the carrier attempted delivery on **** at *:** AM. The carrier indicated that s*he left a notice saying that there was no secure place for the package to be left and was therefore returned to the post office for customer pick-up. There are three problems with the story (*) I was at home at that time and the carrier never rang the bell (*) I live in a three flat with a secure vestibule and hall where USPS packages are left all the time (*) there was NO notice left--presumably because the "no secure location" explanation would not have made sense. I took off this morning to pick up the package at the post office where the package was ostensibly left. After a ** minute wait in line, another ** minutes while the agent attempted to locate the package and another ** minutes after the supervisor intervened, the package was not located. This is the post office on ***th Street. The only way to describe the facility is one of mass confusion. People in the long line were also complaining about encountering problems with carriers failing to deliver packages and lying as to the reasons why. Finding packages appears to be random exercise--dive in and hope for the best. In addition, the facility is short-staffed. That post office is in full-fledged breakdown--bad at any time, but beyond belief during the holiday season. **You wouldn't be in business if you ran your operation like that across locations. Do you reserve sloppy, slipshod customer service for communities of color like Harlem, where I live?**What I want? **) someone to assume responsibility for locating my package and delivering it to my home in the secure vestibule (Deborah Brown, *** W. ***th St. Apt. *-F, New York, NY *****) by TOMORROW. **) I want to know what accountability measures are in place to ensure that carriers don't shirk the job duties with the convenient "we tried but . . ." excuse when in fact they did not try. **) I want a full accounting of where the package went after it was returned to the post office and how it went missing **) I want an apology for this enormous time ****.**My father is a retired postal carrier. I know what the job is when there are standards, accountability and professionalism. He had it. Is this a thing of the past?
