Knew the problem was not quit as big as others made it out to be. Used My computer and went to Microsoft account password reset page (again) and this time I got both codes to enter. Changed her password to something simple. Went to her computer and signed in with new password and all worked. Got really confused by things others were telling me. HP wanted me to backup and reset computer back to factory settings which, I started to do but, aborted the process and figured I would wait until next day, with a clearer head. I was told that her account on the computer was a local account and not a Microsoft account. I bought the computer, brought it home and set it up with a MS account (this lead to part of confusion) I know what I did in that respect so telling me that it was not a MS account wasn't making sense. I could go on jabbering but, all is back to normal, no emergency backups, no no computer resets, HAPPY WIFE!

Help with my Microsoft - Tech Support issue
The issue in GetHuman-dafuzz_'s own words
Update BIOS per HP Support Assistant notification. ... Got an announcement from HP computers that my BIOS needed an update. It was an automated process so, I let it proceed. When the computer rebooted, It came to the pretty Windows ** screen. I pressed enter to get the login box but, it said that the PIN I normally use would not work due to security setting that had been changed. It now wants a password. We have tried all known passwords, past and present. Still not able to login. Account is a Microsoft account and tried to reset through MS. Got first code from MS via email and was allowed to change password. Password did not work! Second code from MS was not received and no option to RESEND. So far off in the weeds now, don't know which way is up.
I set up this computer and very familiar with it
Resolved as far as I'm concerned. It's back up and running.
Been a customer for over ** years and have bought numerous Computers, printers, etc. and at work have specified that HP equipment be purchased.
