I have been on Mercari since **** as a buyer and seller. Recent transactions within the past week for both. Positive feedback. Listed today and have a buyer for an item $***. She says she can’t get her payment to go thru. Gave me a contact email for Mercari. They are telling me due to inactivity of account? I need to go thru cash app and deposit $*** in order to accept payments from buyers? $*** will be put in my account and $** fee. I can purchase with no problem. There is no inactivity and now wondering if this is a scam? The woman has no reviews and new to the site. She is now contacting me thru my text and she gave me the email for Mercari. I’m wondering if this is legit or if I’m going to be out $*** plus ship the item and be out another $*** and never get my money.

How GetHuman5221896 fixed the problem
It was a scam. The person that wanted to purchase my item gave me an email address for Mercari that was rapid response I emailed them and kept getting the same response. Due to inactivity in my account, I would need to download cash app and deposit $*** before I could sell. They would take$** and $*** would remain in my account. Meanwhile the buyer kept sending messages asking if I had transferred yet so she could pay for her item. After numerous emails to Mercari trying to understand why I had to pay $***, my account was not inactive, I had both bought and sold several times within the past few weeks...but got the same response. The buyer had Indicated that she was a long time member of Mercari thru her numerous messages, but at one point I decided to check her out. Turns out she just joined in **** and had zero ratings ....meaning she had neither sold nor purchased. Very strange. So I sent another message to the Mercari email she gave me, this time asking if possibly there was a mixup and the buyer needed verified since it appeared she was brand new and that’s why the payment wasn’t going thru. No response to that email. At the same time the buyer was messaging me asking if I had sent the $*** yet. I told her that there was no reason that Mercari needed that amount of money. They get their **% when the buyer pays before I ever see the money, something just didn’t add up, just be patient I wouldn’t sell the item to anyone else, but not paying the $***, my attorney was investigating. I would let her know something today. No response to that message either. And when I went into Mercari, her account had been closed. Lol. So I’m assuming that I was given a fake email address which went to her, she was sending answers. I doubt she would have ever purchased anything, just a scam to pocket $***.
