I went in to The Columbus Indiana at menards store and went to the paint department and found a stain that I liked it was a translucent or transparent stain that showed the wood grain. I picked a can of transparent stain which was Pittsburgh grand in ticket up to the counter and waited and tell someone was available to help me and I told the young lady that I wanted the shade I chose in a translucent stain that showed the wood grain. She told me that I would need to get the premium can of stain from that company to get my desired look. I said that's fine...it was just a few dollars more . I also purchased a gel paint remove or that she recommended and some other supplies such As a paint tray rollers And other supplies. When I got to the house and started the project the paint removers she suggested was not doing a very good job removing the paint from the floor and so I did end up purchasing more products such as paint removers sandpaper and other things in spit about $*** and ** hours getting the floor back to the bare wood.As I was applying the stain, it didn't look very see through so I called Menards and was told the stains soak into the wood and I would have to see it dry before I knew the final finish look ....it made sense that it might be more transparent after it soaked in. The next day, the floor looked like a painted grey ,not the transparent stain that showed the woodgrain. I looked at the can and saw I was given a solid stain instead of transparent. Besides not having the desired results, all of the money and hours of work we spent to bring the floor back to bare wood were completely wasted. We could have just sanded and painted right over because I was given a solid color, not transparent so the wood grain was visible. I spoke with a local professional painter and they advised me that even if we purchased the paint removers,sandpaper, etc, and spent the time to try to remove the solid stain ,it is unlikely that it could be restored to bare wood again because the stains do actually soak into the wood .* I called Menards in Columbus on June ** ,**** and requested a manager. I explained the situation and was told I would hear back from a manager in a day or so because there wasn't one available at the store when I called. I still haven't heard from anyone at Menards in over * weeks. *Also ,its frustrating that there is not a district or regional manager or someone I can speak with.
