The issue in GetHuman-notaryac's own words
H&R Block prepared our taxes for **** and ****. Your representative reviewed our **** taxes and had an interview with us regarding our tax situation on *******. There were discrepancies that transpired, information overlooked or not researched, of which were brought to your attention and were not corrected. Our ****-**** tax professional was Tennelle Brown* the tax preparation fee was $***.** for ****. For our **** taxes, the tax preparation fee was $***.**, Peace of Mind coverage was $**.**, Federal refund anticipation check $**.** which made the H&R Block Fees $*,***.**. So, all in all you charged us $****.** for **** & ****.* *In our initial meeting, I explained that my self-employed business was a Notary Public business and I kindly asked that they research that information BEFORE preparing our taxes because Notaries Publics are not subject to SE taxes. Also, based on my supporting documentation for business membership fees that I paid, your representative explained that business memberships were not tax deductible. It was proven later based on documentation that I presented that I was correct because each business membership was listed under the BUSINESS NAME AND USED FOR BUSINESS PURPOSES. **You prepared our **** taxes * times. An original one was done and a *nd one because twice you omitted the W* income of Ronald Liggins. I clearly informed them that my husband worked and that was noted in our **** taxes when you reviewed them and you listed it in **** taxes as you prepared those. Also, you were informed that my business was exempt from self-employment taxes. Nonetheless, they still had my Notary income SE taxable. I also explained that my loss of income was not notary related. All of this put our taxable income higher and had us owing the IRS and gave us EIC. I caught the error! The third (*rd) amendment was made to correct the Earned Income Credit (EIC-not owed). **When we’d come to your office to speak with our tax preparer and to find she was not there, we left messages for her or someone to call us. I came into the office again ******* to discuss the discrepancies and oversight, however* we met with an untrained staff member who seemed totally confused. We also met with Tonya Strong, Emily Ohiser, Tennelle Brown and spoke with Debbie O’Brien, the manager* a *rd amendment was prepared to correct the EIC but it still had us owing self-employment taxes. There was a note written on the cover envelope that stated this, “SUGGEST, contact LA*IRS reg. self employe taxes- to prepare yearly”. It was clear that the research had not been done* your staff did not believe that Notaries Public are exempt from self-employment taxes, did not believe me and did not correct the error. Thus, your *rd amendment was still inaccurate. So, we had to go to another Tax Preparer to get our **** taxes amended*corrected. I have the Form **** X which clearly outlines the REASON our **** taxes were amended. **The decision was clear that we would not come back to you in **** forward because of the aforementioned problems as well as the inability to correct the mistakes. For **** we went to an IRS Representative, Enrolled Agent qualified in all ** states to not only review our **** and **** taxes but to prepare ****. He requested transcripts to verify our tax records and found the same error(s). **Any refund that we could have potentially had, H&R Block took! We have never paid over $*,*** for tax preparation. In the previous years we*I never paid over $***. For our **** taxes we paid $***.**. We definitely feel that you have treated us unfairly and not provided us resolution or any peace of mind. I feel “scammed”! A customer should not have to pay for peace of mind coverage* the fact that you are a long standing institution that reportedly provides knowledgeable satisfying tax services to the public should be all the peace of mind that is needed.**Again, we did not get any “Peace of Mind Coverage”. In fact, in November, **** I was diagnosed with cancer and had struggles with that battle from **** into ****. Trying to get this matter rectified was not done with ease, exacerbated my health condition and truthfully did not need to be a matter of stress to add to the battle of my effort to overcome Cancer and Epilepsy. Writing you this letter should not have been done. When it was brought to your attention that there was a discrepancy with SE taxes, the process of “due diligence” should have immediately been put into action. **We made it clear to your representatives that they did not handle certain matters correctly with our taxes and no one there corrected it but we had to pay someone else to “right the wrong” as well as other errors were detected . Your company gives three guarantees which are to mean that we can trust you with our taxes:***Maximum Refund Guarantee – which shows we’ll get the maximum refund we’re entitled to or our tax preparation is free. (Our return had to be amended to reflect the maximum)******% Accuracy Guarantee – you guarantee accuracy and if errors were made, you’ll pay any resulting penalties or interest (We did not get ***% accuracy)***Satisfaction Guarantee- you state that you’re so certain I’ll be satisfied with the tax preparation services at your office, that I only pay if we accept the return. (The tax return had to be prepared and amended by another party and the amended one overrode the one you prepared)**You failed on all * counts! We came into your office several times within the calendar year in which the return was prepared, notified you of the error(s) made, asked for error correction but you did not hold true to your guarantee. We have not heard from you yet with regard to our tax prep refund. It is now, **** and no one has followed up with us ever (to date) to reimburse us anything for this situation. For the total amount we paid $****.** we should have received superior service and even satisfaction in the Peace of Mind coverage. This is our final attempt to get a refund on our tax preparation fees before legal escalation.
