I am trying to set up a Google account on a new Galaxy Samsung Tab A, which seems to be mandatory in order to access the Play Store. The process requests a phone number. (It lies and says "you're in control", but I'm not* there is no way I can find to by-pass this step.) I entered my home phone number. I was notified that an SMS message had been sent to my phone, to which I must reply in order to continue setting up the account. Since the number I gave is a land line, receiving the message is not possible. Is it necessary to have a cell phone in order to use the Play Store? **If so, why? I really shouldn't have to get a cell phone and pay for a cell phone account in order to get apps for my tablet device.
