I passed through lane **w at the Lincoln Tunnel*NJ **Secaucus interchange and was fined a $** administrative fee in addition to my toll. As my plate clearly shows, I am not from NJ, and as such I was unfamiliar with the traffic patterns there and tolls in general, as Vermont has little or no toll roads. I entered an EZPass*Cash lane (where cash was undoubtedly accepted, I stopped and spoke to the attendant. It was not an EZPass-only lane). When asked to pay the toll, I sadly found I had only $* in my wallet and not the necessary $**.**. I was informed by the attendant that I would be allowed through and that a photo would be taken of my plate, which would result in a bill being mailed to me. I was given a receipt*invoice notifying me of billing by mail, but at no point was I informed, by the attendant, by the invoice, or otherwise, that I would be charged a $** administrative fee for not having a chance to stop at an ATM before reaching the toll. I would gladly have paid the toll had credit or debit cards been accepted, but simply didn't realize that the toll would be nearly $** and as such was underprepared and surprised by the cost. I am still happy to pay the toll, as I drove on the road, but I feel the $** administrative fee is unfair and unnecessary considering I was never informed, and simply didn't happen to have enough cash on me.
