I searched for months for a car on craigslist - "for sale by owner" avoiding anything obviously associated with a car "dealer" such as photos taken on what looked like a car lot. When I finally contacted a seller, I was told car was immaculate had no problems, had all records (oil changes, transmission service, etc by conscientious owner). When I arrived at address, it was a car lot.*Long story short - car was advertised on crAIGSLIST with wrong year, wrong model and had several serious problems that became known just by driving it - R mirror didn't work, rock shield, fender liner, etc. needed replacement, etc. The "dealers" assured me that they'd cover these repairs in writing - and would provide service records showing the care provided by original owner.*On way home, mirror almost fell off (had to buy tape and tape it to car. I learned later that model was two steps down, car didn't have features of model identified by dealers - navigation, lane assist, etc. and written promise to pay for repairs was bogus - backdated several days from sale date.* *I'm ** yrs old and care for my ** yr old husband so a car is critical for me - cost to repair just the obvious damage is $**** - and that doesn't include the damage I can't see. *Is there no way to obtain a copy of one of the original ads posted on craigslist (there were three separate ads). I have the car listing in the composite for "cars - trucks for sale by owner" w*car listed there w*inaccurate year and model - but not the ad itself w*contact numbers, etc. I can't afford this. Is there anything I can do? A copy of the ad, would be very helpful I'd think. *Thank you. If this was done by private party I'd give up but it shouldn't be done by a company it seems. Car was $***** - and is worth much less. I didn't verify the info in the ad, believing it had to be accurate. *We can't afford to have this car repaired and can't drive it without these obvious repairs. Thanks. *Laurie and Ron in SF.
