The issue in GetHuman1849162's own words
Yesterday I received an email that my payment was overdue. After getting a copy of the cashed check, I immediately tried on-line chat to get this resolved but the system could not find my account. (!) I telephoned * times* on *, I was told all circuits were busy, on one I was cut off in a transfer and one the fifth I got lost on the on-line system. This morning I called on two different numbers and again in the endless menus could not find either the option I needed or an opportunity to talk to a person. Finally I selected "current promotions" and a real person transferred me to the correct department. There I was told that a number of these emails went out in error, and in spite of the on-line system telling me I was still overdue, Cindy assured me I was paid up. After **-*** years as a customer I am appalled and disgusted that I could not just talk to someone to resolve YOUR problem* also that, because YOUR error was known, I was not informed immediately that the original email was incorrect. This is a case of automation gone awry and not allowing for the real needs of your customers, and of poor customer service. An email reply is probably the best I can hope for but a phone call from a real person would be a delightful and refreshing response from Century Link. As a former Customer Service Supervisor I know what a difference a personal contact can make to a disgruntled customer. My phone number is ***-***-****.

I have an issue with CenturyLink too
How GetHuman1849162 fixed the problem
When you call always select an option that will allow you to talk to a person, regardless of what your problem is. You will be out of the menu system and will be transferred to the correct department.
