Trying to get my W-2 for2023. Have not received a W-2 from my former Employer and he is not responsive to my requests. What are my options to get Employer to respond?

If you haven't received your W-2 by the end of January, and your attempts to contact your former employer are unsuccessful, you can contact the California Employment Development Department (EDD). The EDD may be able to provide you with a wage transcript for your tax purposes. They can also guide you on the next steps to take. Alternatively, you can file IRS form 4852 (Substitute for W-2) where you estimate your wages and withholdings based on your final pay stub of the year. Nonetheless, it's important to know that the EDD may levy fines and penalties against employers who do not comply with the provision of W-2 forms to their employees.

I’m unable to reopen existing claim. I was laid off

We're sorry to hear about this. Issues with reopening an existing unemployment claim might occur due to a number of reasons such as system errors, closures due to returning to work, or an expired claim. The EDD will automatically reopen your claim if you are eligible. However, if you're having trouble, it would be best to directly communicate with the EDD as they will have the accurate and real-time status of your claim. They can guide you accordingly about the necessary steps needed to address your situation.

However, typically, you would log into your account, navigate to account settings, and find the option to update your email or change your password. Why is my certification for current week pending review

There could be several reasons why your certification is pending review. It could be due to an issue related to your eligibility, a discrepancy in your reported income, or it could require a manual review by an EDD representative. During this time, the EDD will evaluate whether you meet all eligibility requirements for the week you've certified. It's ideal to wait until the EDD completes its review. Unfortunately, the time it takes to finish this review varies depending on the specifics of the case. The EDD will notify you about the status once the review is complete.
