How Do I Check the Status of My Unemployment Claim with the California Employment Development Department (Edd)?

In a nutshell: If you are a California resident and have recently applied for unemployment benefits, you most likely want to find out whether your application has been accepted and, if it has, how much your benefit is going to be. You only have a couple of ways you can find out about your application, but fortunately, they are both pretty fast and easy to do.

If you are a California resident and have recently applied for unemployment benefits, you most likely want to find out whether your application has been accepted and, if it has, how much your benefit is going to be. You only have a couple of ways you can find out about your application, but fortunately, they are both pretty fast and easy to do.

What You'll Need

When you check on the status of your claim online, you should see one of three designations:Pending: This means that your application is still under review.Paid/Issued: Your application has been approved and payment has been sent to your bank or EDD debit card.Not Authorized: Your claim has been denied. You should contact EDD to find out why your claim was denied, because you may be able to do something about the problem and reapply.Unfortunately, California no longer has in-person unemployment offices. All unemployment benefit applications and inquiries must be done online and/or over the phone. While unemployment offices exist, these are only for the use of staff who work in that division, and they do not offer services to the public.

If your application has been denied, you can file an appeal to get your case reconsidered. If you do, an Administrative Law Judge will be assigned to review your case. To file an appeal, download, print, fill out, and mail in the appeal form. You must file the appeal within 30 days of the mailing date of your Notice of Determination and/or Ruling. You may still be able to file after the 30 day period has elapsed, but only if you had a good reason for missing the deadline.

The easiest way to find out about the status of your unemployment application is to just keep checking your mail.

Once your case has been reviewed and a decision has been made, the EDD will mail you a Notice of Determination and/or Ruling.
If you don't want to wait to receive the letter and hope to find out as soon as possible, proceed with the next steps.

Click on the myEDD link in the middle of the navigation bar near the top of the page.

Enter the email and password associated with your myEDD account in the text fields provided.

Click on the Log In button to log in to your myEDD account.

Click on the UI Online option.

Look for notices about your application status.

You will probably find notice of the decision here before you receive your Notice of Determination and/or Ruling.
