If your stay at one of Wyndham's resorts or hotels ended with a bill containing a surprise charge, you might want to dispute the charge to get a refund. There are a few different ways to dispute it. The bill from your stay at a Wyndham resort or hotel should only contain the charges and rates you were informed of when you checked in. However, you could be surprised by charges on your bill if Wyndham property was damaged, if you used room service, or if you used some other extra service. If your Wyndham bill contained a surprise charge that you think was applied by mistake, then might be able to get your money refunded by disputing the charge. This article will show you how.

First: Collect Proof that the Charge Was Mistaken

Before doing anything else, gather whatever records can prove the charge was not appropriate. For example, if the rate you were charged was higher than expected, try to find an ad or something similar that mentions the rate you were expecting. If you took pictures of your Wyndham room and were charged for damage, see if the pictures show that the room was damaged when you got them. You should also make a record of conversations with Wyndham employees about the disputed charge.

Second: Dispute the Charge With Wyndham

You can begin the dispute process by contacting Wyndham's customer service and explaining the charge to a representative. Tell them why you think it was inappropriate, and mention any proof you have collected. The Wyndham representative probably can't issue a refund for the charge themselves, but they can at least bring your case to the people who can. This process could take a long time.

Third: Initiate a Chargeback With Your Bank

If Wyndham decides not to issue a refund and you still think the charge was inappropriate, the next step is to initiate a chargeback with your bank. A chargeback is a dispute with a bank over a particular charge made by that bank. Your bank may ultimately decide that the charge was not appropriate. If it does, it will issue a refund no matter what Wyndham thinks. However, you can't just skip talking to Wyndham first because your bank won't allow the chargeback until you do.

To initiate a chargeback, contact a customer service representative at your bank and explain the charge and why you think it shouldn't have been made. Your bank has its own process for handling chargebacks, but whatever it is, it will probably take some time to complete. Your bank will begin by talking to Wyndham's bank and forming an initial impression of the situation. Based on that initial impression, it might issue a provisional credit for you while it continues its investigation. A provisional credit is a refund you must return if your bank finds the charge justified.

Fourth: Sue Wyndham in Small Claims Court

If your bank denies your refund request and you still want to dispute the charge, your only other option is to sue the Wyndham resort or hotel in small claims court. Each court jurisdiction has its own processes and rules for filing a lawsuit. Find them on your jurisdiction's website.
