How Do I Recover My TaxAct Username and Password?

Tax season. Two of the most dreadful words in the American vocabulary and although there are ways to file it for a fee, some places offer free filing. Tax Act is one such provider of tax preparation and it offers this service on the web, so there's no need to buy software. But, as with anything on the web, you must create an account with a username and password and these two necessities may need to be reset or retrieved. Read on to learn how to reset yours should this happen to you.

Basic Reminders

1. Keep your Tax Act account updated with your best contact number and email address. Resetting or retrieving forgotten usernames or passwords is made harder if you no longer have access to the email address or mobile number you used when you signed up for the accounts.
2. If you keep having trouble with your password, double check to make sure the caps lock key hasn't been engaged on accident.
3. Tax Act sends verification codes to help retrieve usernames and passwords by either text or email, so please check your email's spam folder.
4. You will receive an email once your password has been reset, if applicable. If you have any questions for Tax Act customer service, please call them.

The Retrieval

1. Go to taxact.com and click on Sign in or go directly to https://www.taxact.com/auth/
2. Click on Forgot Username or Password.
3. Tax Act can help you reset your password if you know your username, email address or phone number. Usernames are retrieved by phone number or email address.
4. You will receive the verification code by text if you search by your phone number. Searches by username and email receive the code by email only.
5. After providing how you'd like to receive the code, click on Send Verification Code and enter it once you receive it.
6. If you searched based on your phone number or email address, you will see a list of usernames associated with them. A search based on username will immediately prompt you to change your password.
