What Do I Do with a Broken Straight Talk Phone?

This Gethuman guide outlines the options Straight Talk customers can do if they have a broken phone. With warranty or insurance coverage, their phone may be fixed or replaced for a fee. As long as the SIM card is compatible, customers can also use an unlocked GSM or CDMA phone to transfer their service to using their online account.

If the broken phone was purchased as a new phone less than 12 months ago, it is probably still covered by the manufacturer's one-year warranty, depending on the extent of the damage. Additionally, refurbished smartphones are covered by a one-year warranty by Straight Talk.

If you have a broken Straight Talk phone that is not covered by any warranty or additional insurance coverage, you can easily transfer your current service plan to a new phone that is compatible with your broken phone's SIM card. If your phone is a CDMA/LTE phone, you will need to find a compatible CDMA phone, such as an unlocked Verizon or Sprint phone. Or, if you have a GSM/LTE phone, you can use an compatible GSM phone, such as an unlocked AT&T or T-Mobile phone.

To discuss your options or if you have any questions regarding your phone's network type, call Straight Talk Customer Service.

How To Transfer Service from a Broken Straight Talk Phone to Another Phone

Before you begin you should have the IMEI, MEID, or serial number for the new device ready.

Go to the activation page on Straight Talk's website and select the option to activate a smartphone (the first option on the page). Then, you'll be prompted for your new device's IMEI, MEID, or serial number. If you can't find it, click on the ? button in the text field for tips on where to locate it. Click continue once you enter the device's information and log into your account to complete the process. Once completed, it can take up to 24 hours to take effect; however, many customers experience a relatively short activation time.

It is highly recommended that smartphones (as well as all electronic devices) be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. Some recycling centers even offer money for recycling electronic devices. Reach out to your local recycling centers for more information.
