How Do I Transfer Quicken to Mint.Com?

Quicken and Mint.com are some of the best personal finance tools available today. They help you organize your accounts, budget your finances and so much more. You can decide to transfer from one software to another based on how greatly you see the other software will benefit you.

If you have any data in Quicken, you can transfer it to Mint.com so you can seamlessly continue to manage your finances. You can do this in two ways: either manually import the data files to your new Mint.com account or using Quicken's Web Connect feature.

You will need the login details for every account that you want to transfer from Quicken to Mint.com. the transfer process is as follows:

  1. Launch your web browser
  2. Go to Mint.com
  3. Click the ‘Sign up' button located to the top right corner of the home page
  4. You will be redirected to the ‘Create account' page where you will be prompted to fill in some personal details including your email, ZIP code, country and password
  5. Review the details you have typed and then click ‘Sign Up' to register an account at Mint.com
  6. Once on your Mint account page, click the ‘Add account' tab on the sidebar to your left-hand side
  7. A dialog box will appear over the screen
  8. You will be prompted to enter your bank's name or URL. Type your bank's name or their website address in the empty field provided.
  9. Click the ‘Search' tab and select your bank from the list of banks that appear below the field. In this case it will be Quicken
  10. You will be asked to submit the account username and password
  11. When done click the ‘Add it' button. Mint.com will then contact the bank to ensure that the details you provided are valid.
  12. If the account is deemed valid, it will be added immediately and your transactions will start downloading.

You can also export your Quicken transactions as a CSV through the following process:

  1. Open the Quicken website or software in your computer
  2. Go to the transactions that you would like to transfer
  3. While viewing the transaction, go to Main Menu
  4. Select ‘File'
  5. Go to ‘Export'
  6. Select ‘Register Transactions to CSV File'
  7. A pop-up window will appear with additional options. The options are ‘All Visible Transactions,' ‘Selected Transactions Only,' ‘Unselected Transactions Only' and ‘Include Scheduled Transactions'
  8. Select one and click ‘Next'
  9. Select a name for the CSV file and a location for the file and then click ‘Save.'

The above process is usually used for Mac computers. However, you can also export data from Quicken for Windows. As far as Mint.com is concerned, a Quicken Interchange Format (QIF) is a legacy file format and the best to use.

The transfer process is as follows:

  1. Open your Quicken account
  2. Go to ‘File Menu' then
  3. Go to ‘File Export' and
  4. Select ‘File'
  5. Quicken will display the path of exporting the file in ‘QIF file to Export to' field
  6. Choose the appropriate option which is selectin the file to be exported and Quicken will add the relevant file extension. You can also click ‘browse' to select then file location and when you select it, click ‘OK' and Quicken will return to the previous window
  7. In the ‘Quicken Account to Transfer From' list choose the account from which you would like to export data
  8. If you want to transfer certain transactions and not all the data, enter the dates of the transactions you want to transfer in the ‘Include Transactions in Dates' field
  9. You can also select specific items to transfer in the ‘Include in Export' field
  10. Click ‘OK' to create the QIF file
  11. Import the file into Mint.com
