Is Metlife Auto Insurance Any Good?

MetLife Customer Satisfaction

J.D. Power's annual study of auto insurance companies' customer satisfaction ratings gives MetLife a score of 821 out of 1,000, which is a little below average.

MetLife Coverage

MetLife offers the standard policy options, including property damage and bodily injury liability coverage, uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage, collision coverage, comprehensive coverage, and full coverage. These policies meet the state-mandated minimums across the country. MetLife also offers new car replacement coverage, gap coverage, usage-based rates, and a few other extras.

MetLife Discounts

MetLife does not have as many discounts as most of the major auto insurance companies have. It does offer discounts for being a good student, for bundling multiple policies, for taking an approved defensive driving course, and for going violation and claim free for five years in a row.

MetLife Rates

You can't directly compare rates between auto insurance companies in general because each company calculates individual rates differently. On average, though, MetLife has a reputation for having the most affordable rates for drivers with less than perfect records. It also has a reputation for having relatively low rates for all types of drivers.

The My Journey App

MetLife offers an app, called My Journey, to help the drivers it covers become better drivers. Once you install it, your phone keeps track of certain metrics while you're driving, and then offers you advice on things you can do to become a better driver. If your score is high enough when it is time to renew your policy, you could get your rate discounted by as much as 30%.

The Takeaway

MetLife does a little worse than average on customer satisfaction and discounts, but not by much. Although the company does not have many discounts, it does offer a way to greatly lower your rate through its My Journey app. It offers decent coverage, though, and seems to usually have low rates. If basic coverage and affordable premiums are your biggest concerns, especially if you have a less-than-perfect driving record, MetLife could be a good company for you.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for MetLife - Auto Insurance Problems?

GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible.
