What happens if I am denied unemployment benefits?
If you are denied unemployment benefits by the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance, you have the option to appeal the decision. To initiate the appeal process, you must file an appeal with the Department within 10 calendar days of the date on the Notice of Determination. The appeal can be submitted online or by mail. Once your appeal is received, a hearing will be scheduled where you will have the opportunity to present evidence and witnesses supporting your case. It is crucial to gather all relevant documents and information to strengthen your appeal. The hearing will be conducted either over the phone or in-person. After the hearing, a written decision will be mailed to you. If you are still unsatisfied with the outcome, you may further appeal to the Board of Review within 30 days.
