Can I switch health insurance plans during the year?

Asked 6 months ago
Yes, you can switch health insurance plans during the year, but only under certain circumstances. The Healthcare Marketplace allows for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP) outside of the annual Open Enrollment Period if you experience a qualifying life event. These events include getting married, having a baby, losing job-based coverage, moving to a new area with different health insurance options, or qualifying for Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). If you qualify and enroll in a new plan within 60 days of the life event, you can switch health insurance plans. However, it's important to note that switching plans might result in changes to your coverage, network of doctors, and out-of-pocket costs, so careful consideration should be given before making any changes.
