What Is The Gap's Return and Refund Policy?
Buying items online is fun, you feel exhilarated upon checkout and when you receive your order. Needing to return or exchange, not so much. The Gap makes it easier by marking certain items as mail return only in your shipping confirmation email. Otherwise, bring it to its corresponding store, Gap.com purchases returned to a Gap store, for example. For mailed in returns, you will receive an email once it's been received.

The Gap was originally founded in 1969 and still operates many of the original six divisions to this day. Old Navy, Banana Republic, and Athleta are a few that are still in operation. But what if you made a purchase at one of these stores and need to return it for a refund? This guide will show you the steps and what to expect.
Checking Return Status
- Returning an item to its store. Your refund will be processed in front of you and will go to the original payment method. Please note, that not all items can be returned or exchanged in-store.
- Items that can only be returned or exchanged by mail will have that designation in the shipping confirmation email. There is also no need to check the status of mailed-in returns, the Gap will send you confirmation by email once the refund has been completed. Refunds for the cost of the items are reimbursed to the original payment method as soon as they receive the delivery. Please note, that any out-of-pocket costs are not reimbursed.
- Refunds made to a credit card may take up to an additional 10 business days for your credit card company to post the refund to your account.
Return By Mail Process
- Use the Gap's interactive returns process here https://returns.narvar.com/gap/returns to create your return label.
- Pack your return securely, in the original package if possible, and include your packing slip. This is the same packing slip you created via the interactive returns process. Please put your shipping label on the package while making sure no other tracking labels are showing.
- When your package is ready to ship, you can either give it to your mail carrier, drop it off at the nearest post office, or schedule a free at-home pick-up if you mail it by USPS. For UPS, drop it off at your nearest UPS location.
- If you have any questions, the Gap's Customer Service line is available for you daily from 7 A.M. until 1 A.M. ET.
Return In-store
- First, find the nearest store location located here https://www.gap.com/stores.
- Next, bring the item and either your invoice or shipping confirmation email, to the store. Let a sales associate know that you want to return the item and if it's a gift return.
- If you have any questions about the return policies, you can call either the toll-free customer service line or the local store.

Why does GetHuman Write How-to Guides for Gap Problems?
GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Gap in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What Is The Gap's Return and Refund Policy? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
