There are, unfortunately, multiple ways you could fall victim to fraud. Someone could steal your Discover card. Your computer could become infected with spyware that captures your personal information, allowing scammers to steal your identity. Skimmers installed at local card readers and ATMs could steal your PIN. The only way you're likely to know that you are a victim of fraud is if you notice fraudulent charges appearing on your account. If you do see fraudulent charges, you need to take immediate action.
If anyone else has access to your account, like a spouse or child, you should first check whether they made the charges. You could go through a lot of pointless hassle if you report fraud when they made the charges.
The first thing to do is call Discover to report the fraud. You should have the numbers and dates of the fraudulent transactions and the names of the merchants involved. Tell the customer service representative that you want to report fraud, and follow any instructions they give.
You should also consider freezing your account until the source of the problem can be determined to prevent any further fraudulent charges from being made. If your Discover card was lost or stolen, you should cancel the card and ask for a replacement.
Discover will need to conduct an investigation. If you have any documents that you think will help you prove your allegations and get the charges removed from your account, you will need to mail them to Discover at the following address:
Discover
P.O. Box 30945
Salt Lake City, UT 84130-0945
If you fear the fraud results from identity theft, you should contact the major credit bureaus to put a fraud alert on your credit reports. A fraud alert will mean no one can open a new account in your name without verifying their identity. You should also file a police report about the fraud.
You can get ahold of a Discover customer service representative by chat, help forum, or phone.
GetHuman has been working for over 10 years on sourcing information about big organizations like Comcast in order to help customers resolve customer service issues faster. We started with contact information and fastest ways to reach a human at big companies. Particularly ones with slow or complicated IVR or phone menu systems. Or companies that have self-serve help forums instead of a customer service department. From there, we realized that consumers still needed more detailed help solving the most common problems, so we expanded to this set of guides, which grows every day. And if you spot any issues with our What do I do if my Xfinity TV or internet is out? guide, please let us know by sending us feedback. We want to be as helpful as possible. If you appreciated this guide, please share it with your favorite people. Our free information and tools is powered by you, the customer. The more people that use it, the better it gets.
After helping consumers for 10 years, we realized that you need an impartial, live person you can talk to about comparing the various TV, cable, Internet and phone plans in your area- somebody who can compare the best deals across telecom providers.
