How Do I Sign Up for Barclays Credit Card?

If you have decided you want a Barclays credit card, you may first want to determine whether or not you are eligible for one, so rejection doesn't harm your credit rating. You can apply for the card itself online, and the procedure is a simple, though rather lengthy, one.

So, you need a new credit card and you've decided that a Barclaycard is the right choice for you. Read on to learn how to apply for one.

Before You Apply

Being rejected for a credit application can hurt your credit report, so you may want to check your credit score before applying. You can use Barclays' online eligibility checker to do this. This checker does a "soft credit check" that doesn't appear on your credit history, so there's no risk to your credit score this way, either. To use the eligibility checker just follow these instructions:

  1. Go to Barclays' home page.
  2. Click on the Personal tab in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.
  3. Click on Credit Cards in the upper left corner.
  4. Select Choose a Barclaycard from the drop-down menu.
  5. Select Check If You're Eligible.
  6. Choose the card you are interested in by clicking on See Card Details.
  7. Click on Check Eligibility.
  8. Follow the instructions you are given.

Applying for a Card

If you look like a good bet for the card you want, just follow these instructions:

  1. Follow steps 1 through 4 of the above instructions.
  2. Select Compare All Credit Cards.
  3. Select the type of card you want to get.
  4. Click on the Find out More button.
  5. Click on Apply.
  6. Fill out all of the fields on the application. You will need to provide your personal information, contact details, income details, monthly expenditures, and more.
  7. Click on Continue.
  8. Follow any other instructions you are given.

If you don't want to make the application online, you can go to your nearest Barclays bank and apply for the card in person.
