How Do I Find My Missing Iphone?

Few things are more stressful than losing your iPhone. When this happens, you can log into iCloud and perform a search for your missing device. If the iPhone is still on and you've engaged "Find My" you can get the exact location of your device. If the phone has gone dead or has been turned off, you can still get the last known location from iCloud. You can also remotely lock your device until you have recovered it.

We've all misplaced our cellphones at one time or another. When we are with family or friends, we can ask someone to call our phone and listen for it to ring or vibrate as a way to locate it, but that's not always an option. What do you do when your iPhone goes missing? How do you find your missing iPhone? You can get information from customer support here, and you can read on for ways to find your missing iPhone.

When Your iPhone is Missing

There are a number of things you can do when you notice your iPhone is missing. The phone could simply be misplaced, or it could have been stolen, so you want to safeguard your iPhone and the information stored on it.

iCloud

You can look up a missing iPhone on the iCloud; however, this will only work if you have turned on "Find My" on your iPhone. To turn on "Find My" do the following:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on your name and scroll to "Find My"
  3. At the top, make sure "Find My iPhone" is set to "On."

This way, if you lose your iPhone or it is stolen, you can do the following steps to locate it:

  1. Log into your account on iCloud.
  2. Click on "Devices."
  3. Select the iPhone you are looking for.
  4. Click on "Open in iCloud."
  5. Enter your iCloud ID and password.
  6. Enter the Two-factor identification code (if you have access to another device that can receive the code).
  7. A map will appear with the location of your iPhone.

When the Phone is Powered Off or the Battery is Dead

If the phone is powered off or the battery has died, you still have options. When you turn on "Find My" also engage "Find My Network" and "Send Last Location." Having these engaged will help you find your iPhone's last known location in the event the battery goes dead before you recover your device.

If you cannot locate your iPhone, you can remotely lock your device to prevent others from getting your personal information. Remote locking your device will disable Apple Pay on your iPhone, text messages will not go through on the device, and location is temporarily turned on to help you find your missing device.
