In [redacted], when I transferred my registration from VA to LA, there seems to have been an oversight in cancelling it properly. Fast forward seven years later, I recently lost my driver's license and when I applied for a new one, I was informed that VA had placed a block on my record. After a frustrating hour-long phone call with the VA DMV, I was instructed to provide proof of insurance from [redacted]. Despite faxing the required documents promptly, I have yet to receive any response. Now, I find myself stuck without a license and have spent two full days trying to sort out this issue. Although it was acknowledged that I did nothing wrong, I am being asked to pay $[redacted] to have the block lifted. Given that my car was in LA and registered with proper insurance at the time in question, I am puzzled as to why VA is involved at all. How should I proceed to resolve this matter?

I need to update my address as I haven't lived in Virginia since July [redacted]. I can't register for online DMV services as it requires a Virginia Driver's License I haven't had in 5 years. Calling them is impossible, a message says they are not accepting calls. It's urgent because of a tax lien due to my outdated address with the state.

I have been trying to reach by phone, but it is constantly busy. I am located [redacted] miles away and attempting to sell my father's vehicle online with a power of attorney. I sent all the required documents, but the DMV is requesting the original. Unfortunately, I cannot send the original as it needs to be filed in the courthouse in Arkansas to be considered legal. I have a certified copy with the county clerk's signature and seal. Can this document be used in the vehicle sale, and how can the person in Virginia complete the transaction smoothly? They have already faced issues due to the previous copy. Please advise on a good contact number and guide on completing the sale in Chesapeake, Virginia [redacted].

My daughter got a ticket in VA back in September [redacted] when she was 19 years old and didn't have a VA driver's license since she's from WI. She's studying in Fairfax, VA. I'm puzzled because she was made to take a driving intensive class in VA despite not having a VA license. She completed the class on Jan 20, [redacted], and holds a VA DL since Jan 16, [redacted]. The DMV claims her license is suspended for not finishing the course, even though she did. The driving school (A Drivers Improvement) says she needs to do the class for both the court and the DMV. We're baffled as WI doesn't have these rules.

We have discovered an abandoned vehicle at our store in Ohio. After attempting to contact the owner without success, we were left with no choice but to seek assistance in obtaining the title to move forward with selling the vehicle. We have faced challenges reaching the necessary department through the phone number provided, and the online form for abandoned vehicles only applies to those abandoned in Virginia. After reaching out to the Virginia DMV via mail and receiving a detailed form requesting various documents such as the Original Certificate of Title and Bill of Sale, we find ourselves stuck in the process. If only there was a way to speak to a knowledgeable individual who could guide us on the next steps to acquire the title and proceed with the sale of this abandoned vehicle. A working phone number with responsive staff would be greatly appreciated.

I have been attempting to reach the Harrisonburg DMV since 8:30 am, calling over [redacted] times today with no success. As a single mom who works 6 to 7 days a week, this experience is frustrating. When I tried to access my online account, I was prompted for a pin that I don't know. The security questions asked about my youngest child, but I now have 6 children, making it difficult for me to proceed. I need to understand what is required to reinstate my license after 8 years without one. It's challenging to visit the DMV with all my kids only to be redirected multiple times. Right now, my main request is for the DMV to pick up their phone to help customers promptly and avoid further frustrations.

I have some important questions that I hope you can help with. My mother paid off her car to get a clear title in case something happened during her successful heart surgery on July 24, [redacted]. Due to lung complications, she is now at my house receiving care from Hospice. We recently received the car title from the DMV with her name on it. However, her will states she has left the car to me. Do I need to pay inheritance taxes when the car is left to me? Should she add my name to the title now? She is mentally alert but physically suffering. When she passes, do I need to bring her death certificate, will, title, and my ID for the transition process? I appreciate your professional guidance on this matter. Thank you, Bev Millirons.

Dear DMV,
I am submitting a request for a review of the decision to downgrade my CDL. On November 16, I noticed that my license had expired without any prior notification from the DMV. After discovering a medical hold on my license, I obtained a new medical exam for $[redacted] on the 17th. Upon visiting the Tappahannock DMV, I was informed that my CDL had been downgraded in [redacted], which I was unaware of. The notification letter was sent to an old general delivery address, which had been discontinued by the postal service. Despite maintaining my medical, I did not realize I needed to present it to the DMV.
I have been driving the church bus without my CDL, unknowingly putting myself and others at risk. I believe the lack of proper notification is a significant issue. I am requesting understanding and the reinstatement of my CDL, promising to hand-deliver my medical updates or adjust the requirements to prevent such oversights in the future.
Despite calls to the commissioner's office and the federal highway transportation office, I have not received a satisfactory response. I hope you will consider the unique circumstances of my situation and restore my CDL. I am willing to provide my current and past medical cards for verification.
Sincerely,
Kevin C. James, License #T[redacted]3

I contacted the customer service number for the Virginia DMV multiple times this morning, but each time I got a written response saying the line was busy with no option to wait. Eventually, I heard a recorded message stating all agents were busy. I understand the frustration as I couldn't even wait in line. I tried calling at times recommended online, like 10:15 am on a weekday, but it didn't work out. I wish there was a better way to reach them without constant redialing. If anyone has advice on when to call or how to improve this situation, it would be much appreciated. It's frustrating not being able to speak to a live person when I need assistance.

I am currently experiencing difficulty obtaining a restricted license. Unfortunately, I am unable to access the necessary information online as it prompts me to contact the DMV for security reasons. When attempting to make this call, I am repeatedly informed that due to high call volumes, my call cannot be connected. Despite my numerous attempts, including calling right when they open, I have been unsuccessful. Not being able to secure a compliance summary or schedule an appointment, even when checking at multiple locations up to November [redacted], is frustrating. This situation is hindering my ability to acquire the restricted license I am legally entitled to and to have my regular license restored in November. It is crucial for my job, and I find it unreasonable that the system is preventing me from obtaining what the court has allowed me to get. I feel at a loss about whether I have any other options aside from driving without a license or refraining from driving altogether until I can visit the DMV without an appointment post-coronavirus era.

I applied for an ID card at the Poplar Hall Drive Norfolk location on 9/3/20. Despite providing my new address ([redacted] Hyde Park Road, Norfolk, VA [redacted]) and documentation to support it, the DMV records still show my old address as [redacted] Broad Street, Apt. [redacted], Virginia Beach, VA [redacted], where I haven't lived since [redacted]. The teller, identified on my receipt as DMVJGD, couldn't update my address in their system even though my receipt does reflect the correct Norfolk address. She mentioned my ID card might be sent to my old address, leaving me puzzled as to why she didn't act on the address change I clearly requested. I'm having trouble setting up an online account and reaching customer service through [redacted]. I'm concerned that my ID card will have the wrong address due to this oversight. I urgently need assistance in rectifying this issue and ensuring my ID card reflects the correct Norfolk address.

I submitted Transfer of Vehicle (TOV) forms for two vehicles and a trailer to the DMV in April by mail and have not received a response. Despite sending follow-up emails and making multiple calls, I have been unable to get through to the DMV due to high call volumes. The earliest available appointment online is in December, which is inconvenient. I believe that COVID-19 should not be an excuse for the lack of response, as taxpayers like myself have been working virtually during the pandemic to meet job requirements. I am requesting prompt assistance from the DMV and would appreciate a call back at your earliest convenience. My contact number is [redacted].

Upon moving to Virginia in August, I scheduled appointments online to update my expiring license and plates in mid-November. Unfortunately, a required marriage license delayed my plans, leaving me with a new appointment in late January. I am concerned about driving with expired documents as I cannot secure an earlier appointment. Although Ohio allows a grace period until December 1st, I am unsure about Virginia's enforcement of out-of-state expirations. Does anyone have insight on this matter, considering the appointment availability challenges I am facing? Thank you.

Virginia currently limits residential license plates to seven digits, while states like North Carolina utilize plates with eight digits successfully. Are there any upcoming plans in Virginia to expand the residential vehicle license plate digits from seven to eight? I am inquiring because I have had a unique 7-digit tag since I retired from the Navy in [redacted]. As a Vietnam Veteran dealing with several medical issues and VA claims, potentially leading to a [redacted]% disability rating, I may apply for a DVN license plate, which would mean relinquishing the special plate I have cherished for years. I hope to avoid this, so if Virginia decides to increase the allowed digits to eight, it would resolve my concern and likely benefit other veterans facing similar issues.

I have a motorhome that hasn't been tagged for years and is no longer in use. The county tax office mentioned that if the DMV removes it from their records, it will be taken off my tax account. I contacted the Richmond DMV office last year but never got a call back. Can you please advise on how to proceed to remove this vehicle from my DMV and county records?

I am looking to change the car title to have only my name on it. My wife and I have agreed to remove her name for easier management, as her ownership rights are secured in our will. Can she request this change through a notarized request? The title number is [redacted]3, issued on 8/10/20, with the names George L. Jefferson and Shirlee Dorothy Jefferson at [redacted] S. I am looking into registering and tagging my car online promptly so I can use it for work. I have the title and VIN# ready from the previous owner. I am prepared to pay all necessary fees to expedite this process. Scheduling an appointment isn't ideal as the earliest available is in February, and I need a job to sustain myself. Obtaining the necessary legal documentation in my name is crucial for income. Any assistance is greatly valued. Thank you.

My driver's license expired a few months ago, and I recently received an extension from the Virginia DMV. Despite the extension being granted, I haven't received any physical documentation yet. I urgently need a printed copy of the extension to prove the license's validity for a transaction. To obtain this, I visited the DMVnow website for verification. During the process, I encountered an issue with the security questions, particularly regarding the titling date of my vehicle. After multiple unsuccessful attempts, I realized the correct year should be "[redacted]" when the car was transferred to my name. However, the website now blocks me from logging in and prompts me to call their helpline. Unfortunately, my attempts to reach them by phone have been unsuccessful due to high call volumes. I've been persistently trying since this morning without any luck. I would greatly appreciate assistance in contacting the Virginia DMV. Thank you for your support.

I need to address a concerning situation regarding my driver's license issues in Virginia. Despite now residing in Philadelphia since August [redacted], my attempts to update my information have been fruitless. Even after multiple address changes, there has been no response or correction from the Department of Motor Vehicles. The label "NOT/NOT" on my license is hindering my job prospects in Pennsylvania. The lack of communication from the authorities has become frustrating and is impacting my family. If this matter is not resolved promptly, I will escalate it to state representatives and local officials to seek the necessary attention and resolution.
