A person recently contacted me, and I believe it is a scam. I wanted to report this for awareness. The individual, James, messaged me through Meetup, complimenting my profile picture and expressing interest in getting to know me. He mentioned being a widower seeking a long-term relationship and asked me to contact him via email at M C C A R T H Y J A M E S 8 4 0 @ G M A I L C O M. Upon checking, it seems his profile is no longer active. I hope nobody fell for this potential scam. Thank you. Gena Cameron

I encountered several issues. Firstly, throughout [redacted], due to Covid, my group was inactive, despite having paid all fees. Secondly, I relocated to San Diego because of Covid, rendering my "Los Angeles Self-Actualization Network" group irrelevant. Thirdly, I have been charged an additional $98, which I intend to dispute unless refunded promptly. Fourthly, I kindly request the reversal of this charge. Once resolved, I plan to close my account and establish a new group once I am fully settled in San Diego. Your assistance in addressing these matters is greatly appreciated.

I am requesting to permanently CLOSE all three Meetup groups where I am listed as the Organizer. I want to ensure that I will not be held responsible for any membership fees. I do not give consent for Meetup to automatically deduct funds from my account on file. The groups are: 1. East Valley Spiritual Holistic Healing 2. Gilbert Self-Improvement Meetup 3. Kuddles R Us Kindly confirm that all the mentioned Meetup groups will be closed. Thank you. Sandie G. User [redacted]2

Meetup's feature that records the time of RSVP responses to events is crucial for fair attendance organization. In the past, this system has worked reliably and accurately. However, in recent times, the Newnan Paddlers group based in Newnan, Georgia, has experienced issues with the ranking algorithm. Two types of errors have been identified. Firstly, some members are inaccurately placed in the 'attending' list despite responding later than others who end up on the waiting list. Secondly, after a day or two, random shifts occur between the 'attending' and 'waiting' lists, causing confusion and frustration among group members. Taking screenshots as evidence has been attempted but is not a sufficient solution. I am seeking assistance from tech support at Meetup to address and resolve these issues promptly.

Hello, I have attempted to resolve this issue with other team members already. When multiple emails are required to address a problem, it seems that each email from me might be directed to different support team members due to how the system operates. Regardless, I would like to address this issue once more. Initially, I signed up for MeetUp using my phone through the app or web browser; I believe I used the email [redacted] Upon signing up, I joined various groups like the Cincinnati Book Club, Dayton Designated Drinkers, and Yo Dayton Let's Hike among others. Later, when I tried to log in via my laptop browser, I encountered login issues with the credentials I thought I had used initially. In a rush, I ended up signing up again with the same email address for the groups Yo Dayton Let's Hike and Cincinnati Book Club. Now, I have two profiles, unable to access the one created on my phone. Strange enough, I receive emails from the Dayton Designated Drinkers group on the same email, despite not signing up for it on my laptop. Clicking "unsubscribe" in their emails prompts me to be a member, which I cannot do unless I access my original profile. It appears both profiles share the same email, and my name and picture appear twice under the listed members for both groups. I hope this clarifies the situation. My name is Ashley Kinkaid, and my email for both profiles is [redacted] Feel free to request further information if needed.

Our group, Jersey Harmony Chorus, received a refund in July last year. Since then, we haven't been charged for our Meetup subscription, but we can still use the service. We suspect that an unknown credit card is being used to cover the costs. However, we checked our account and there are no saved credit cards, and it shows that we don't have an active subscription. Could you please clarify how our subscription has been active without payment since July [redacted]? Or is there a possibility that Meetup offers a free version with limited features? We appreciate any assistance you can provide in resolving this matter. Thank you for your help. Best, Sandra

Hello, I would like to discuss a philosophical matter that I am facing in the Australian Capital Territory as an organizer of a group. Recently, within our organization, one of the organizers has been imposing strict rules and limitations that are contradictory to the open and welcoming spirit of Meetup. This individual seems to be steering our group towards a narrow-minded and almost religious structure, causing tension and making it challenging for us to enjoy the fellowship and growth that Meetup is designed for. Despite organizing numerous successful activities that have engaged a significant number of participants, this individual has been suggesting that I should consider leaving the group or starting a new one. My wife believes this person's behavior stems from jealousy due to the positive impact I have had on the group since joining. As a retiree, I am not willing to tolerate such negativity and would like advice on how to address this issue tactfully at our upcoming meeting on Saturday, February 13th. Thank you, Russ Morison Canberra ACT, Australia

Our group, Conversemos, is currently in Charleston, SC. We were informed about a $7 annual membership fee recently and were directed to the Meetup site to make the payment, which I did on January 10, [redacted]. However, we have an upcoming group event on Sunday, February 7, [redacted], and despite receiving several emails asking me to accept or decline, I am unable to do so. When I try to accept the event, I am prompted to pay my dues again, even though I have already made the payment. The group leader confirmed my payment but is unsure why I am still being asked to "pay" again to accept the event. Additionally, I learned that once my credit card information is on file, it will be automatically charged if I sign up for another Meetup event. What if I want to use a different payment method or leave the group? I would appreciate some clarification on these issues.

I am a Meetup member, not an organizer. I am currently a member of three groups but need to deactivate one as I have moved over 2,[redacted] miles away. Despite informing the organizer that I did not wish to renew, I was still charged $10 through auto-renew on my credit card. I am seeking guidance on how to deactivate the specific group while maintaining my membership in the other two groups. It is frustrating that there is no clear point of contact to discuss and resolve this issue.

I previously had my Meetup account linked to the old email [redacted], which I deleted 1.5 years ago. I am now using a different email and would like to combine my old Meetup account with this new one. I am concerned about losing access to my old meetups and messages with former colleagues. I want to avoid having to rejoin these technical meetups. Preserving my meetup history is important to me. My current email is [redacted] The original email associated with my Meetup account was [redacted] Best regards, Ana D. Thank you.

I am experiencing ongoing frustration with Meetup's photo uploading process. Despite using the same image with consistent resolution across different Meetup groups I manage, the system inconsistently accepts it. The error message repeatedly indicates a minimum size requirement of [redacted] x [redacted] pixels, even when the image has been successfully uploaded to another event shortly before. This issue occurs regularly with various images, and attempts to resize the photos have been unsuccessful. This technical hiccup is not only wasting my time but also making me consider leaving Meetup entirely. I urge the technical team to address and solve this problem for all users as soon as possible. It seems like a needless obstacle since Meetup mandates an image upload for event listings.

Dear Community Members, I have been a member of Meetup for many years under the name Empowered Life Coaching. Due to financial constraints and time limitations, I am unable to continue using the platform. Although it was a valuable learning experience, it did not align with my business needs. Today, on 3-23-21, I followed the instructions to close my account. I successfully removed myself as the account organizer. However, I was informed that my account would continue to be charged until August [redacted]. This message was received: "Your current subscription is paid through Aug 22, [redacted]. After that, you’ll no longer be an organizer. To continue leading your Meetups as an organizer, or to start a new Meetup group, all you need to do is turn your subscription payments back on." This situation is unacceptable. I kindly request to stop the charges immediately since I am no longer utilizing the service. I appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and look forward to hearing from you regarding the actions taken. Best regards, Melinda R.

I organize two meetup groups and I've been attempting to hold our meetings online via Zoom due to COVID-19 restrictions on live events. Unfortunately, we've experienced multiple instances where the Zoom platform on Meetup has been down. This has led to two failed quizzes and two virtual towns due to members being unable to access the Zoom link on the Meetup site until after the event ended. Members were disappointed as these events were important for community engagement during the pandemic. I am requesting a refund for our group fees for the period of [redacted] to [redacted] due to these issues. Sincerely, [initials]. The groups are the Southern Social Adventurers and The Northern Social Adventurers.

I'm having trouble paying for a subscription on Meetup. Despite entering the correct details, I keep getting an error message saying my UK Visa debit card information is invalid. This card is regularly used and works fine elsewhere. I had a subscription that I cancelled back in December [redacted], and it seems like Meetup still has my old group's information stored. I used the same card for payments before. I'm attempting to pay for a 6-month subscription. This issue is new to me - any suggestions on how to proceed?

I have recently taken over the position from Chuck D. in the Rockford Social Activities group in Rockford, Illinois due to his health challenges. I have been covering the organizer fees, even during the pandemic period when we were only able to hold trivia events due to the mask mandates. Chuck suggested using the group's funds (approximately $[redacted]) for a cookout or pizza night, but I am unsure how to access these funds since Chuck has passed away. Additionally, I am interested in using some of the funds to help offset the high organizer fee of $98.42 for six months, especially because I faced challenges paying when my debit card changed. Thank you for addressing my inquiries. Best regards, Diana C.

I was recently charged $[redacted] for the Meetup fee unexpectedly. Normally, I receive an email beforehand to notify me of the charge. As a restaurant group manager, I've struggled to schedule events due to the pandemic and was previously given a discount for this reason. I cannot afford the $[redacted] charge right now and would like a refund or a discount until events can resume. I also run a language group that couldn't meet in person during the pandemic. I believe virtual meetings are not as effective and lack the technical expertise to host them. If a reduction cannot be granted, I may need to resign from both groups. Taking money without notice feels unethical, especially during these challenging times. I hope for a prompt response. Sincerely, Penni G. Email: pgould3256[at]yahoo.com Phone: [redacted]

I am Lindsey Galloway, and you can reach me at [redacted] Today in Wilmington, NC, I created a Meetup Group, actually two. After completing my payment, an error message stated my name was taken, so I renamed the group from "Books and Bites for Babes" to "Babes, Books, and Bites." However, now I have both meetups that I would like to merge to avoid dual charges. I only authorized one payment. I wish to delete the unused "Books and Bites for Babes" group, keep "Babes, Books, and Bites" with existing members, and rename it to "Books and Bites for Babes." I appreciate your assistance in sorting this out. Thank you.

I joined a Meetup group for a trip to Springs in Florida but unfortunately, I had to request a refund as my son's father is in hospice, and I couldn't make it to the event. I reached out to Jim O'Brien for the refund, but instead of contacting me directly to explain the process, a friend who made the payment on my behalf tried to assist, but Jim didn't respond. I was understandably upset by his lack of communication and handling of the refund request. He even deactivated my Meetup account, which I found unreasonable considering the circumstances. I simply want my $[redacted] refund and feel that better communication could have avoided this whole situation.

Error code: SEC_ERROR_OCSP_FUTURE_RESPONSE The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem." I have Zoom events to attend on Meetup groups and would appreciate any assistance in resolving this issue. Thank you. Alison
