Hello, I am Kavya Anand, an undergraduate student at the University of Sunderland in London. I arrived in the UK on October 11, [redacted], and applied for my National Insurance number on October 18, [redacted]. Despite mailing back the application letter on November 3, [redacted], it has been over four months, and I have yet to receive my National Insurance number. I contacted them via phone, and they claimed to have sent the number to the address I provided on December 29. It has been over a month since then, and I have not received the mail. They assured me it would only take 15 working days. I tried to follow up, but they are not answering my calls. I am at a loss as I need the National Insurance number to work in the UK. While my friends who applied at the same time have received theirs, I have not. Please assist me promptly. I have attached my details for your reference. Sincerely, Kavya Anand

In June [redacted], I had to quit my previous job due to stress and safety concerns. Unfortunately, I couldn't receive Universal Credits because my partner's income was considered too high, although it wasn't enough to cover all our expenses. Recently, I started a new job at a cafe, but now I've been furloughed and left with only £25 per week, relying on contributions from family and friends to make ends meet. I was surprised to find out from my simple tax calculation that I owe £[redacted].20. I wonder why this wasn't corrected last year. I am hoping to arrange a payment plan of £10.00 per month to settle the debt as that's all I can afford. Currently, I'm undergoing training to become a dog walker, planning to be self-employed soon, but the job is on hold due to social distancing regulations. Will my new self-employment status affect the outstanding tax debt?

Good morning, Could you please translate this into Italian for me? BUONGIORNO, My name is Mohamadou Camara, born on 11/10/[redacted], I live in Italy. I would like information. I have invested in cryptocurrency with a British company called Investactive. I invested a significant amount of money and now I have requested to withdraw the money back. They said I need to pay HMRC the commission, insurance, taxes, and other fees, and I have paid everything, but I am unable to get my money back. They are telling me the payments should go to HMRC. Then they provided a document from HMRC to make a 10% payment, and I have paid it. Now they are asking for additional money for the bank transfer from the United Kingdom to an Italian national bank. If you reply to me, I will send you the document from them. I will be waiting, thank you. Best regards.

Dear Sir/Madam, Subject: Regarding HMRC Taxes for Tax Reference Number: 58[redacted]4 I arrived in the UK in June [redacted] and had to urgently return to India on March 29, [redacted], due to a family emergency as my father was hospitalized with heart-related issues. This unexpected situation kept me in India to support my family, and I was unable to submit the P85 form upon leaving the UK. After residing in Chennai for work, I recently relocated back to my hometown, Tirunelveli, due to the impact of Covid-19. I have been made aware of outstanding tax filings by HMRC. I kindly request the cancellation of taxes since my departure from the UK on March 29, [redacted]. Considering the current challenges due to the pandemic, I have also been affected by a job loss and am actively seeking employment. I urge you to acknowledge my situation and exempt me from tax obligations from [redacted] onwards. Attached is a copy of my passport displaying the return date to India. Your prompt attention to this matter is greatly appreciated as I have not received responses to my previous correspondence.

Good morning, I am Malcolm Whitehead and I received a letter from HMRC stating that I owe £[redacted].40 in taxes. When I tried to pay according to the letter, my account showed no further payment required and that I'm up to date with no option to pay. I have attempted to call this morning multiple times, but after following the procedures for 3 minutes and 29 seconds, I was disconnected due to high call volume. I acknowledge my responsibility to contribute towards addressing any issues with furlough payments, considering I have worked and paid taxes for 49 years. I would appreciate clarity on my account status as the letter mentions accruing interest if not paid promptly. Thank you for your assistance. Malcolm Whitehead.

I recently received a letter about my self-assessment tax calculation for the [redacted]/18 tax year, but I am confused by it. The amount you claim I owe you is the same amount you refunded me last year, which was £22.00. I noticed you listed different tax liabilities for UK and non-UK residents, but I have been living in France since [redacted] and never encountered a non-UK resident income tax liability limit on my tax returns before. I am willing to repay the refund if necessary, just let me know. Thank you. - A.C. Le Val, [redacted], Le Mesnilbus, Normandy, France

As a new Community Council Clerk, I recently downloaded the BPT PAYE tool. My Council, Trallong C.C, is registered for tax with the employer reference [redacted]/RE11968, but I'm missing the Accounts Office Ref. number. I aim to print the last payslip of the previous clerk for auditing purposes and generate a P60 for her. Additionally, I need to enlist myself as an employee, providing my NI no. WB 89 21 92 B, and require a tax code for this new employment. I believe a basic tax code for 20% tax on the income as the Clerk for Trallong, Penpont, and Llanfihangel Nant Bran Community Council is necessary, while I also maintain full-time work with Dyfed-Powys Police and receive a pension from Powys County Council. I appreciate any guidance on these matters. Thank you. Regards, J.D. Joseph.

I have power of attorney for my father, who is 90 years old, and he wants me to manage his financial matters. After my mother passed away in October [redacted], my father inherited her deposit accounts. He received £[redacted] in taxable interest in the tax year [redacted]/21, exceeding his savings allowance of £[redacted], making him liable for 20% tax as a basic rate taxpayer. Despite only having income from pensions and interest, my father has never filed a self-assessment tax return. I attempted to contact HMRC via phone and web chat but couldn't get a prompt response. Should I continue trying to reach an adviser or proceed with submitting a full tax return online? Thank you.

Hello, Our existing company, Amazing Success Group Ltd., is considering transitioning into a Property Sourcing Agent role tailored for busy Investors and Buyers seeking assistance in finding suitable properties for purchase. Our proposed activities would involve sourcing properties, facilitating connections between investors and property owners, and recommending mortgage advisors if necessary. It's important to clarify that we would not handle buyer funds directly, with payment of our Finder's/Sourcing Fee coming from the investor upon deal completion. We are seeking guidance on whether completing a Money Laundering Compliance Course is necessary, given our non-involvement in financial transactions. Additionally, contemplating a shift in services to Estate Agency - Sales & Lettings raises questions about potential compliance requirements, including the need for the Money Laundering Course. We appreciate your prompt assistance in advising on the appropriate course of action. Thank you for your support, Grace

I had a lengthy wait on the phone to reach you. Finally, I spoke to a representative working remotely. The call quality was poor, but she tried to improve it. I asked for clarification, which she did not provide. Specifically, I inquired about interest charges. It's puzzling - if I paid the exact amount requested, how can there be an overdue balance? Unfortunately, the call disconnected abruptly. This situation is not acceptable.

I am seeking information on the Capital Gains Tax (CGT) that would apply if I were to sell my house. The property was gifted to me by my Mother around [redacted] or [redacted] and remained unoccupied for approximately 14 months. During that time, my Mother resided with me while modifications were made to the house for her comfort. Subsequently, she had to move to residential care. Initially, I planned to move in after her departure due to the possibility of losing my accomodation tied to employment, which fortunately did not happen in the end. This house is my sole ownership experience, and I have been residing in it for the past two years since my Employer's passing. It was rented out from [redacted] to [redacted] to contribute to my Mother's nursing expenses. I would like to determine the CGT amount upon sale to establish my budget for purchasing another property. In addition, I am curious if expenses related to property improvements, such as re-roofing, can be claimed for tax purposes given the circumstances surrounding the faulty roof replacements in the area. Any assistance regarding these inquiries would be highly appreciated. Thank you. Sincerely, C. J.

On June 1, [redacted], I made an online order for a new driving licence, and I paid £80.00, which appears as "Licence assistance" on my bank statement. I have not received any updates on my order and cannot locate where to inquire about it. I received an email from HMRC online support with the reference AILE-[redacted]-RRAX on July 7, [redacted], but I am unsure if it relates to my licence order. Can you please provide information on who I should contact regarding this issue? Thank you. - Charlie Wheeler

Hello, I believe I may have overpaid my taxes for my self-employed account. Initially, I received two messages with conflicting information. One stated, "You have nothing to pay," while the other indicated, "Your payment is due by 31 January [redacted]," with an amount of [redacted].29 pounds to be paid. After making the payment, a day later, a new message appeared informing me that I have overpaid. I am now uncertain if I was supposed to pay or not. Will the excess amount be refunded to me? If so, when can I expect this refund? Please advise on what steps I need to take. Thank you in advance. Svetla

Dear HMRC, I am writing with regards to a property transfer as part of a divorce settlement. I am seeking clarification on whether a 10 percent discount applies to the Capital Gains Tax (CGT) I must pay when transferring 50 percent of a London flat to my ex-husband. Our divorce was finalized in late [redacted], and I do not reside in the property. Despite contacting HMRC's Capital Gains Tax Technical Department, my ex-husband insists on a 10 percent discount for the CGT, which I believe is not applicable. I aim to fulfill my tax obligations correctly and need a written response from HMRC to resolve this matter promptly before the transfer in a few days. Your assistance in providing clarification on the CGT discount issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, L.S.J. Marshall

I recently realized that my previous job classified me as self-employed without me fully understanding the terms of my contract. During the period of April to June, I earned a total of £1,[redacted] (£[redacted] per month) and now need to report my income correctly. After informing my new employer about my previous role this year, I was placed on the BR tax code, causing an overpayment for my first month. I am uncertain about the steps I should take to rectify these situations.

I misinterpreted the terms of my previous contract where I was considered self-employed and responsible for my taxes. Due to this, I received the incorrect tax code at my current job and have been taxed at the basic rate despite not hitting the allowance threshold. During my self-employment from April to June, I earned £1,[redacted] (£[redacted] per month). I am uncertain about the steps I need to take to rectify these issues.

I currently own some shares with only dividends, which I reported in my self-assessment form. However, in the 2[redacted] financial year, I sold two of my shares at a significant loss due to declining value. Since I do not have any capital gains to offset these losses against, I was wondering if there is a way to carry forward these losses to offset against future gains. I have printed the Capital Gains sheet but require guidance on how to complete it as most of the advice available online focuses on gains rather than losses. What information do you need from me to process these losses? Thank you, Sheila.

I am reaching out regarding a tax credit overpayment that I received after my ex-partner, Mr. Frederick Thomas Diamond, was arrested for assault in February [redacted]. I believe this overpayment is related to his children, and I am unable to afford the £61.73 deduction from my Universal Credit. Citizen's Advice, specifically Peter, has been assisting me with this matter. They have provided you with documentation from the court proceedings. Could you please look into this for me? My National Insurance number is YZ488345C, and Mr. Diamond's is WE01810. Thank you for your help.

I recently received an email from HMRC, requesting that I contact them regarding my new job after not working since [redacted]. They mentioned that my tax code might be incorrect due to this. My National Insurance number is WE849941A, and I anticipate that my earnings will be below the threshold since I plan to work part-time. Unfortunately, I am unable to log into HMRC directly as the verification phone number on file is no longer valid. Here are the details they provided: Name: Angela Ann Breen Date of Birth: 1/11/[redacted]
