I recently received two phone calls from different numbers claiming my National Insurance number has been compromised for fraudulent activities. They threatened to freeze my assets and initiate legal action. I am confident this is a scam and disconnected the call when prompted to press 1. I want HMRC to be informed about this new scam, but I need the correct number to report it. Thank you.

My name is Ghizlane Semmah residing at [redacted] Bowerdean Road, High Wycombe, HP13 6AY. I am in the process of repaying child benefit that we were not allowed to receive due to new regulations implemented 2-3 years ago. We have paid a portion, but there is an outstanding balance that I have lost track of. Due to financial difficulties exacerbated by the pandemic, we are struggling with various debts including bank loans and mortgage repayments. All details are registered under my husband's name, Khalid Machmoum, at the same address. I can provide any additional information you may require. I kindly request assistance in resolving this matter promptly as it is currently causing me significant stress. Thank you for your attention. Regards, Ghizlane Semmah.

Hello, I am a UK citizen residing in Spain for three years and retired. I used to work for John Parker & Son in Canterbury for 21 years. Recently, I received my pension from them and opted for the 25% lump sum. However, being a Spanish resident, I must report this income here. Despite explaining that it was already taxed and tax-free, my solicitor advised me to pay 25% Spanish tax on it. A knowledgeable friend is assisting me in understanding the tax systems in Spain and the UK. I have a meeting at the tax office in Velez Malaga, Malaga region, to address this issue. My name is Barry O'Donnell, and I can be reached at [redacted][redacted]. Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Barry O'Donnell

As a British citizen living and working in Spain, I am contemplating retirement and need to determine my eligibility based on my work history in the UK. The Spanish authorities require information on the years I worked in the UK. I have attempted to obtain this information by requesting my NI contribution record, but I need a detailed 'employment history' rather than just the NI contributions. I came across an HMRC form for an employment history, but it seemed associated with a compensation request. How can I apply for a comprehensive employment history from HMRC to verify the length of my UK employment to fulfill the Spanish retirement requirements? Thank you, T. G. Doyle NI Number: WL136626B

I formed a limited company in August [redacted], but now realize I should have set up as a sole trader instead. I contacted Companies House in August [redacted] to close the business since I haven't traded since February [redacted] due to personal reasons. Despite not owing any money and making an £[redacted] loss, I keep receiving letters demanding PAYE payments for myself, even though I never paid myself. I reached out to inquire but received no response, and calling only results in long holds or being disconnected. I've submitted tax returns to HMRC and Companies House and am the sole director and employee. I am unsure how to stop these demands since the company is being dissolved, causing me significant anxiety. Reference: [redacted] PE [redacted]3.

In August [redacted], I contacted HMRC after some phone calls to address confusion regarding my PAYE scheme. I made an error in my [redacted]/21 submissions by only entering two payments for myself as the sole employee instead of monthly payments. The resulting bill of [redacted].38 is incorrect, and I am unsure how to rectify this using HMRC Basic Payroll software. Additionally, I am struggling to terminate the PAYE scheme as I no longer have any employees under that scheme since February [redacted]. I seek assistance in amending the PAYE submissions for 20/21 to show [redacted] per month paid to me as the only PAYE employee (with the last payment in February 21) and subsequently ending the scheme from that point as I no longer have any PAYE employees. This adjustment should resolve the outstanding claim from Project Champions for PAYE for that year. Thank you in advance for your support.

I am having trouble signing in to my account because a verification code is being sent to an old mobile phone number that I no longer have access to. The number I had was from overseas when I lived there, but now I am back in the UK. The tax office nearest to me, which I believe is in Bangor, Gwynedd, has relocated. When I visited the previous location, it seemed to be closed with mail visible through the locked door. The only way I can reach HMRC is through an expensive mobile phone call, which my current phone credit cannot sustain for long enough to speak to someone. Unfortunately, I can't add credit to my phone online as I've lost the necessary card, and I can't get to a store like Tesco to do so either. I need to update my phone number on file to regain access to my account and notify HMRC of my return to the UK. It's possible I owe taxes, but without access to my account, I can't check.

Dear Sirs, I recently received a letter from your office regarding liabilities in [redacted]. However, during that year, I filed my taxes through the accounting firm Easy Return, and everything was in order. I also submitted the requested documents to your office, but I did not receive any response. I want to clarify that I have been unable to work since [redacted] due to health reasons confirmed by NHS doctors. As a COPD patient and pensioner, I receive a monthly pension of £[redacted] since [redacted]. Upon reviewing my documents, I discovered pay slips dating back to [redacted] that I recently found. I am willing to provide any necessary information or additional documents at your request. I kindly await your response and hope that you will reconsider my liabilities and cancel them. Thank you in advance. Best regards, L. Ponzo

I was issued a cheque for a positive balance from tax year 2[redacted] in the amount of [redacted].20 pounds dated 30-10-[redacted]. I held onto the cheque without an expiration date until my recent visit to the UK in September. I deposited it at the Bank of Scotland branch in Edinburgh, hoping to have the funds in my current account within 3-5 days. Unfortunately, when I checked at an Isle of Skye branch, I was informed the cheque had been rejected. After contacting HMRC, I was told to expect a new cheque at my address in Austria. They mentioned it could take 8-10 weeks, but I have not received it yet. I tried calling for assistance today, but the long wait time and expensive call charges were discouraging. Can someone please assist me with this issue?

Good morning, I missed the deadline for paying dividends because neither my accountant nor I received any correspondence from HMRC. I recently received a letter with a fine of approximately £[redacted]. I appealed the fine a month ago, and the dividends were paid a week ago. I am unsure how to proceed since HMRC has not communicated with me to advise me on the current status of the case or whether an investigation has been initiated. Despite reaching out twice last week, they insist I should consult my accountant, who is unresponsive and insists I handle the fine. I am perplexed and uncertain about the next steps, especially considering my consistent timely tax payments over the years without any delays or missed payments. I have several inquiries: - Who is responsible for managing this case: myself or my accountant? - How can I confirm if the appeal process has commenced? - What actions can I take to avoid paying the fine, given that I did not receive any previous correspondence from HMRC? I am unsure if this is related to the current Covid-19 situation or if the letters were lost in transit, as I have never experienced delays or missed payments before. Thank you for your assistance. I, Sirigina Veera Venkata Satyanarayana, traveled to the UK from Oct 14, [redacted], to Dec 24, [redacted], due to a secondment through my company Atkins India to Atkins UK in their Bristol office. My income tax returns for that period were filed in [redacted] and acknowledged by HMRC. However, recently I received a communication from HMRC about tax due for self-assessment, even though I have not been in the UK since Jan [redacted]. I am not required to file a tax return for [redacted]/19 as I haven't met the criteria. My name is being penalized inaccurately, and it seems there might have been an oversight in updating my records. I kindly request that my UK residency status be corrected as I have not resided in the UK for the past three years and should not be liable for UK taxes.

Since March 24, [redacted], I have been working from home due to Covid-19. Last year, I successfully applied for a gas/electric allowance through the HMRC Gateway. Unfortunately, I have misplaced my ID/User number and other necessary details. I will be returning to work for three days a week starting the week of December 6, [redacted], for a three-month trial period. I believe this change may impact the allowance I am currently receiving. I am seeking guidance on how to resolve this matter and notify the relevant department regarding my return to work schedule. Thank you for your assistance.

Good morning. I have been utilizing Basic PAYE tools to manage employee payments monthly. Unfortunately, while transitioning this responsibility to an accountant, I discovered that four months of submissions are missing. I am unsure of why or how this occurred. I believe the next step would involve confirming the absence of the submissions and then proceeding to submit the four missing returns to rectify the situation. I recently filed my Tax Return for the year [redacted] to [redacted] online. However, I noticed that the computer mistakenly changed my name from Richard Grant Shephard to Richard Grant Prendergast. Prendergast is actually my partner's name, whose tax return I also submitted on the same computer. I just want to confirm that my correct name, Richard Grant Shephard, is reflected accurately on my tax return. The rest of the information on the tax return is correct.

I am currently in China due to the pandemic and have been unable to complete my self-assessment online. Despite sending a paper copy, it seems to have not been received. My attempts to contact customer service via phone were unsuccessful, resulting in long wait times and unhelpful responses. As a non-UK national without other means of identification, I am at a loss. Overpaid taxes have increased my urgency to complete the self-assessment. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Erik

I am in the process of completing my [redacted]/21 self-assessment tax return. I am waiting for a letter from HMRC regarding the tax-free payment percentage from my husband's return. He has already filed his. The tax office informed us that the letter will arrive in about a month, and I must wait for it before submitting my return. I hope to hear from them soon as the deadline of 31 January is approaching, and I want to avoid a £[redacted] fine. I am unsure if the communication will be via email or regular mail. Thank you, R. Rowan.

Hello, I received a letter from you regarding the deadline for my online Self Assessment tax return. I attempted to do it online, but I am having trouble verifying my identity as I do not possess a UK address or English ID. I have tried calling multiple times, but the lines are constantly busy and calling the UK from abroad can be quite expensive. Please assist me with this matter. Thank you. I submitted a letter to HMRC on 9th November [redacted] regarding my outstanding tax balance. I have not yet received a response, which I understand may be due to staff shortages. My concern is that I enclosed a stamped addressed envelope to confirm receipt of my letter, but have not received any acknowledgment. Perhaps my envelope was incorrectly labeled. I sent the letter to HMRC in Newcastle at NE98 1ZZ. Could you track my letter, confirm its status, and return my stamped addressed envelope (which had a special stamp) to me? If necessary, my home address is 7 Orchard Close, Frodsham, WA6 6DS.

Subject: Misleading Correspondence Report Good Afternoon, I would like to report a company for sending misleading correspondence. The envelope was labeled "Important - HMRC related documents enclosed - do not ignore," but the content inside was actually from a company discussing PPI claims, completely unrelated to HMRC. The use of the word 'related' may provide them with a loophole, but it was deceiving as it made the mail appear urgent and significant. I was disappointed to find unsolicited spam in what seemed like an official communication. Best Regards, Nikki
