The company was founded in 2013 under the title "Doorbot." In 2018, the company was acquired by Amazon. If you have recently purchased a Ring Doorbell, you may find it difficult or confusing to set up. Keep reading for step-by-step instructions on how to set your Ring doorbell.

Setting Up Via the Ring App

  1. Open your device and go to the Apple Store (iOS devices) or the PlayStore (Android devices).

  2. Search for 'Ring.'

  3. Download and install the Ring app on your mobile device

  4. Open the app and select 'Create Account.'

  5. Follow the instructions to create a new account.

  6. Select 'Set up a Device.'

  7. Click 'Doorbells.'

  8. The back of your Ring Video Doorbell has a QR code or MAC ID code. Using your smartphone's camera, center the code on your screen and scan the code.

  9. Once the code is recognized, a green line (MAC ID barcodes) or a green square (QR codes) will appear.

  10. Note if you're having difficulties scanning the code, click on 'Set Up Without Scanning' and select 'Ring Video Doorbell' to continue.

  11. A notice will pop up on the screen requesting that the Ring app be allowed to use your location services. Select 'Allow.'

  12. You will be prompted to enter your address into the app.

  13. You will then be asked to name your device. You can choose a default name suggested on the screen or click on 'Custom' for a more specific name.

  14. Click and release the orange button on the back of your Ring Video Doorbell. A spinning white light on the front of your Ring Video Doorbell will appear, then tap 'Continue' on your app.

  15. Follow the prompted steps to join your Ring Video Doorbell to a Wi-Fi network. You will need to enter the Wi-Fi password.

  16. The setup process is now complete. You should test your device by pushing the front button to make a test call. This will start your software and verify your doorbell is ready to function.
