How Do I Redeem My Frequent Flyer Miles for a Flight with Delta Airlines?

If you're a frequent flyer with any airline, it might be a good idea to sign up for their respective frequent flyer program. One such airlines that has such a program is Delta Airlines. Called Skymiles, Delta's frequent miles program aims to provide experiences. You can bid on backstage or VIP passes to meet your favorite celebrity as well as put miles towards inflight purchases or magazine subscriptions. But what if you just want to redeem your miles for a flight? You can do that too. This guide will show you how.

Booking Your Flight

1. Go to delta.com or open the Fly Delta app and select the Book option.
2. Check the box on delta.com that's marked Shop With Miles, or click on Show Price in Miles on the Fly Delta app.
3. Choose your flight preferences, such as dates and number of passengers including yourself, and click on Find Flights.
4. You should see Delta's Award Calendar showing the lowest price options for the dates you selected.
5. Choose the flight or flights you want, follow the prompts to complete your purchase.
6. Please note, that Delta has a Miles + Cash redemption option if you want more flexibility in paying for your flight. To use this option, follow the above steps but after you select the flight you want, change the Show Price In setting from miles to Miles + Cash.

You May Have An Award Travel Fee or Similar Fee.

1. These fees are nonrefundable and vary depending on your Skymiles membership level. The fees are about $150 per ticket for standard, silver and gold medallion members.
2. Diamond and Platinum Medallion members see more in the way of waived fees.

Cancelling or Changing an Existing Flight

You can still make changes in most cases within 24 hours of booking. If you are owed a credit for an unused ticket, then you can expect to see it post within 24 hours of your originally scheduled flight as an eCredit. If you used Skymiles to purchase your flight, you would be entitled to a full refund of your miles if you cancel within the 24 hour risk-free cancellation policy.
