Before Making the Changes

There are some things you need to know before canceling a recurring payment.

  • You must cancel the payment 3 business days before the processing date to make sure the funds are not drafted from your deposit account.
  • You can add the payment back at any time, but you need to make sure you do not incur late charges or missed payments on the recipient account.
  • If you still have an obligation with the recipient, you will need to set up another payment plan to avoid defaulting on the account.

Canceling a Recurring Bill Payment

To cancel a recurring bill payment with Bank of America do the following:

  1. Log into your online bank account with Bank of America.
  2. Click on "Transfer/Zelle" at the top of the screen.
  3. Go to " Send Money To/From Other Banks."
  4. Select "Transfer Activity."
  5. Scroll through the transfer activity to find the one you wish to cancel and click on the small arrow on the left-hand side of the transaction.
  6. Click "Delete" to remove the bill payment from your transfer activity.
  7. Review the information and select "Delete Transfer Plan."
  8. Go back to "Transfer Activity" to confirm the transfer shows "Cancelled" in the status column.

Once a transfer is processing, it cannot be cancelled; however, future payments will not be drafted from your account when you delete a recurring bill payment.
