Is Amica Auto Insurance Any Good?

Amica was originally founded in 1907 and it continues to grow. It offers more discounts to date than any other insurance company and multiple plan options along with free perks. There have been reports that premiums increase, there are delays when issuing claim payments, and that customer service quality is not up to par. It's best to take these with a grain of salt and to talk to someone you know who has experience.

Founded in 1907 as a mutual insurance company, Amica has a reputation for offering unique additions to the normal auto coverage options and excellent customer service. However, is this reputation legitimate, or are certain things embellished? This guide will help you come to your own conclusion.

What Amica Offers

Like other insurance companies, Amica offers auto coverage ranging from liability only to full coverage; collision and comprehensive, medical payments, bodily injury and more. There's also gap coverage which pays for anything you might still owe on your car if it's totaled while you're still paying the loan note. Another offering is Full Glass Coverage which repairs chips and cracks, replaces full windshield if needed and recalibrate your car's sensors. Amica also offers a premium version of its full coverage package which includes glass repair and replacement without a deductible, prestige rental coverage without limits, and credit monitoring.

Then you have the multiple discounts available; bundling, homeowner's discounts, multicar, young driver training, good student, and accident-free. Let's not forget discounts for going paperless, being on autopay, and taking defensive driving. If you want to see all the possibilities for yourself, feel free to call Amica customer service or visit their website.

Amica Customer Service Representatives

Okay, we have seen that Amica does provide more than just the basic coverages for car insurance, but what about the customer service? According to the third party review site Consumer Affairs, Amica has great service that remains consistent for the long standing customers that have been with the company for decades. Consumer Affairs also reports that Amica offers perks like free lock and airbag replacement which is not shown on Amica's website. In fact, the only negatives customers provided were the limited office locations, Hawaii seems to be the only state not covered by Amica, and the cost of the insurance for those who do purchase a plan can be rather pricy.

Yet on another third-party review site WalletHub, a few more complaints were stated such as no coverage for rideshare or commercial customers, delays in claim payments, and customer service reported as average instead of exceptional. Reports of increases in premiums seem to be prevalent. Unfortunately, in order to determine why there were complaints one would need to talk to customers who had claims and listen to their calls with the representative. There can be a disparity with agents, one caller may appreciate an agent's professionalism and efficiency while another caller may feel like he or she is speaking to a robot. As for claims issues, one can only speculate why there were delays. The bottom line is that all companies do the best they can for customer service, which is one of the most demanding careers because the training actually comes with experience. It's all up to you to discover what is the most important to you when it comes to your auto insurance policy.
