Calling this Vanilla Visa Card Customer Number

Calling this phone number is quite effective if you need to report a card lost or stolen, as it provides a security checkpoint at multiple spots and offers almost no wait time. When you call this number, you're first asked to choose your language. You're then given a challenge to confirm that you're a human and not an autodialer by entering a certain number in a series of numbers or solving a simple math equation.

If you fail the challenge, the system will tell you that you have entered an invalid number and give you a different challenge. If you fail the challenge three times, the system will automatically hang up. If you pass the challenge, you are asked to enter your 16-digit Vanilla Visa Card number. You can say that you've lost your card and cannot enter your number, but if you try this, you will have to provide a number to the representative to actually report your card lost or stolen.

If you go this route, the system will tell you that you can report your card as lost or stolen via the website, and if that happens, Vanilla Visa can issue you a replacement card. If you purchased your card before 2010, you'll be assessed a fee to get a new card, while a card purchased after the date in question won't have an automatic fee.

Once you get through the menu, the wait is virtually nonexistent before a representative picks up the phone and asks how they can help. Not having an actual card, I chose to end the call here rather than waste the representative's time.

Based off the security provided by the automated system and the quick wait time, I would absolutely use this phone number if I needed assistance with a Vanilla Visa gift card. The reactions make clear this company takes security and service seriously.

Christian has been writing about long hold times and customer service call center experiences since 2010. He's been featured in Bloomberg, the Wall Street Journal and the Boston Globe.
