My UberEats order never showed up, and the picture that they sent me was not identifiable, so I decided to call the company to try to get to the bottom of the situation. I’m currently staying at the hospital with my daughter who had surgery, and the hospital accepts UberEats orders at the main entrance so I thought that I would order something. I’ve been here for over a week, so the idea of food not from the hospital cafe sounded great. Sadly the execution was not so great, as the photo in the app showed my bag sitting on some random bench somewhere.
Since it was clear that I wasn’t going to be able to find that exact bench, I called this number that I found online to see what I could do about it. Granted, I bet this situation happens to people on a regular basis, but I don’t see why, because after awhile the delivery person is going to get caught and banned from the service. There were also probably calls from merchants and delivery people as well, so I was prepared to wait for a minute. Luckily, I had all the time in the world since no one was going anywhere. If anything, this gave me the chance to talk to someone.
At first, I was confused calling this number because it seemed to think that I was a merchant, but I worked my way through the system and eventually was able to be treated like a customer. After I dialed, an automated system picked up and greeted me saying, “Welcome to UberEats restaurant and merchant support. In order to identify your store, we need the phone number registered to your store's account. If you know the store’s number, press one. If not, press two.” I pressed two since I don’t have a store, and then it said, “You can find the registered number on the Uber Eats orders app. If you are able to acces the Uber Eats order app, press one. If not, press two.”
I pressed two again, and this was the magic entry because I got a directory that gave me options to respond as a customer, and this is exactly what I needed. The system said, “If you are an existing UberEats merchant, or interested in signing up for Uber Eats, please press one. If you are a delivery person, press 2. Or if you are a customer, press 3.” After I chose option 3, the recording said, "Thank you for contacting support. Please note that this call is recorded for training and coaching purposes. Please stay on the line while we connect you with the next available support agent." It only took about a second to get connected with Abby. I didn't even have to listen to hold music. "Abby" had a very thick accent but she was helpful and my money was refunded.
