An important note: busy times vs hold times vs best time to call
When we refer to busy or less busy times, we are talking about the volume of calls. The busiest times are when the most people are calling this Delta Airlines phone number (least busy times have fewer people calling). This high call volume does not necessarily mean that you will have a long hold time when you call. Companies like Delta Airlines staff their call centers differently based on the time of day and day of the week, so you may experience a shorter wait on hold at the busiest of times. When we refer to the best time to call, we are referring to the optimal combination of lower call volume and shorter wait times.

Calling this Delta Airlines Customer Number

Calling Delta Air Lines was straightforward when talking to a representative, but not very helpful when dealing with the online system. When I called, I was first asked what the reason was for my call. I said to check airfares, but the system misheard me and thought I asked about baggage incidents. It then asked me for my baggage issue, and I again said I wanted to check air fares.

It then proceeded to ask twice more before offering to connect me with a representative. When it did, it first offered to have me get help via text message instead of waiting on the phone. I said no and waited for less than a minute before getting connected. When the representative asked how she could assist, I said that I was looking for air fare for November 1 to November 5 from Indianapolis to Tampa and wanted to check prices.

She asked if I wanted a flight in the morning, afternoon or evening, and I said it didn't matter; I cared more about price. She then asked if I wanted pricing on the main cabin, basic economy or first class. I said main cabin, and she said the flight she'd found left at 6:50 pm, with a 2 hour layover in Atlanta and an arrival in Tampa just before midnight. She said the return flights had the option of leaving at 6:15 a.m. with a layover in Detroit or later in the day with a layover in Atlanta. If I took a return flight before 9:30 a.m., I'd pay a total cost of $347.95, while later flights were $367.96.

Based on this, I think Delta needs to fix its online system, but I appreciated the in-person customer service and would use them again if I needed genuine assistance.
