Dear Sir*Madam**I am writing regarding flight VY**** on ******** from Gatwick to Florence with the scheduled departure time of **.****My booking reference is QY*EGC. This flight was cancelled and I was unable to make alternative arrangements. The only option offered to me was December **nd which I could not take due to onward travel to Sicily. I was really disappointed that no other alternatives were suggested - I was happy to fly to anywhere in italy on december **th or **st in order to make my connection on the **nd. You even fly via barcelona to Catania my ultimate destination and this was refused saying that the only alternatives would be for flights from London Gatwick to Florence. I understand your customer service member was trying to help but to not offer alternative destinations is a very cruel scheme especially at this time of the year. I had to request a refund and make alternative arrangements which cost a lot of money which have me out of pocket by £*** due to Hotel and trains I can no longer take. **The passengers in the party were Grace O'Byrne**The judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union in Tui & others v CAA confirmed the applicability of compensation for delay as set out in the Sturgeon case. As such, I am seeking compensation under EC Regulation ******** for this delayed flight.**My scheduled flight length was **** of kilometres therefore I am seeking €***, per delayed passenger in my party. The total compensation sought is €*****I look forward to hearing from you and would welcome a response in ** days,**Yours faithfully,**Grace O'Byrne
